foreign object in sump
Dear Sirs,
After draining the oil in the '03 I found this sticking out of the
drain hole:

Any ideas as to what it may be? I'm thinking that it could be the
doohickey, but that was replaced 7000 miles ago. The bike is in storage
in Africa at the moment while I return to work. I will have one
opportunity to bring the right tools and parts when I return to it
later this year.
Many thanks,
Cam J.

Yes that looks like it could be the part of the Doohickey that goes
around the shaft. If it was broken when you replaced it you may
not have gotten all the pieces out. If you replaced it with the
factory part it could have broken again. I would open it up and
take a look.

The next question is, what was the original doohickey replaced with?
Another stock lever or an after market? Al A13 Ia

Looks like the bottom half of the doohickey.

fuel starvation?
Also check your gas cap vent. Have you been hearing a high pitched whistle from your cap? The venting system the cap gets restricted and can be cleaned but be careful of all the small pieces that can get lost. Use some compressed air on the cap and see how it works. It may fix your problem or you may still need to take the cap apart to clean it better.

The bike will hold back then run and so on and so on. The only other carb mod I have done is the tee. I live in Florida but I do not think the heat has anything to do with this as it will do this on demand in any kind of weather. I have removed the carb and tank and cleaned them and the petcock thoroughly in case it was dirty fuel but the problem persists. It is not like I drive at this speed everyday but when I do it is really aggravating. Any thoughts would be helpful.
