quick and dirty fan test?

I need to test an old fan, does it matter which side of the plug I send
positive vs. negative? Don't want to pull the tank (had a hell of a
time with the install of my IMS tank, once it comes off it stays off)
so I plan on just connecting some alligator clips to the blades inside
the plug. Also, dod I still need to do something with the chassis
ground?

Did some searching in the archives and FAQ and couldn't find the
answer. Just trying to get it done quickly so RM can back to riding.

Pull the wire from beneath the fan that plugs into the sensor. Touch
this to ground (like the frame) and if the fan is okay, she'll spin.
It's also pretty common to blow the fan fuse. The fuse is on the right
side and will require the shroud to be pulled to access it.

The fan I'm testing is not mounted to the bike. I want to just make
some temporary connections to the bikes battery (without actually
mounting the fan) to make sure she still spins...

Tuma,
It shouldn't make any difference for a test. But in actuality it will
since you don't want the fan turning the incorrect way.

Thanks Jeff,
I just wasn't sure if reversing them would nake it spin backwards vs.
burning out the motor or doing some other damage.
