Quite a bit of pavement. Still a lot of fun and very enjoyable. Lots of Amish country and things you would never see on any other ride.> > has anyone done the tennesse part of this trail or planning on doing > it soon? >

Hal, You really only need to carry a spare front tube as it can be stuffed into the rear if needed. I would change both front and rear to heavy duty (4 mil) tubes before leaving and use the tube you pull out as the spare. I haven't done the TAT, but I always wear full dirt gear when I ride, well, in the dirt. I usually end up testing it pretty well too. ;') I'm a big fan of chest protectors, knee pads, and elbow pads, so if those are not on your list of gear I would add them. A kidney belt can be a good thing too. Skip the spark plug. I have never heard of anyone fouling a spark plug on a KLR. A spare air filter is a good idea, or you could run 2 or 3 filter skins and just pull them off as they get dirty. And run some agressive tires... da Vermonster p.s. what size Gas Gas is hanging with the three little pigs?> > i'm thinking that full dirt bike gear > > (pants jersey boots helmet with gogles) is this to much or is it > enough?

I forgot to mention some other spares I recommend rolling with: Shift lever Brake pedal bracket (unless you already have the billet Dual-Star bracket) clutch/brake levers (unless you have rugged handguards) clutch cable run alongside the exisiting one so if you snap it, the swap is fast and simple. JB Weld or similar Duct Tape WD-40 gauze pads burn gel> I'm a big fan of chest protectors, knee pads, and elbow pads, so if > those are not on your list of gear I would add them. Hal, Your daily meds (if any), a credit card that is 'robust', mosquito spray, necessary paper/butt wipes, and hand sanitizer. Fresh tires or with double the needed tire life with HD tubes, and all the tools necessary to change either tire. A 'real' wrench for everything in that OEM tool kit. (Others will give a specific detailed list) Remember, there are not enough tools in the OEM kit to change the front tire. 14T front sprocket plus the tools to change it (given you are OEM 15/43 sprockets) A good attitude and the spirit of adventure and (perhaps) a limited power of attorney for one of your friends. revmaaatin> gear > > i'm thinking that full dirt bike gear > > (pants jersey boots helmet with gogles) is this to much or is it > enough? > > the part of the trail we intend to ride will be the > mississippi-arkansas-oklahoma loop > > 5 days of riding about 1000 miles of dirt. > > your advise would be appreciated > > hal2006 > > 2006 klr > > 2002 zg1000 > > 2000 xr250 >
You oughta know better than that.... it's QuikSteel!!!!! JB-Weld is great, but not good for fast repairs of holes in engines. Tumu is the poster child for Quiksteel. Some of you may recall his 7 hour ride home with 3.5 tubes of Quiksteel holding the bottom of his engine together like the cubes in Hasbro's "Don't Break The Ice" game. Mark>JB Weld or similar
I remember that but I always thought of his engine as a Rock 'em Sock 'em Robot. "His block is knocked off!" "That's OK, you can press it back on again. Ahemmm.... I am the poster child...and everyone knows models are stupidder than....than....than a tube of Quiksteel! JB Weld might have a similar product to Quiksteel now but anyway...it's the putty stuff that you knead (need) on the trail to activate. Very helpful stuff. da Vermonster> > At 2:57 PM +0000 2/2/08, Tumu Rock wrote: > >JB Weld or similar > > You oughta know better than that.... it's QuikSteel!!!!!
