mlk day 2008 ride

Got off at work at 6 a.m. (6 degrees) and the A19 fired right up. I only live 2 miles from work but I took a long way (6 miles) back this morning. My sister bought me a battery powered vest and I wanted to see how it would do under this very cold weather. I had a pair of dress pants, dress shoes, white tee shirt and the electic vest under a FIRST GEAR cold weather suit. I was using FIRST GEAR gloves with a tight knitted type glove inserts. I also had a full face helmet with a foggy mask insert. My upper torso felt OK but my arms and fingers were getting a bit cold before I got home. One other spot that was getting cold was under my chin. I guess I could sew a longer piece of material on the foggy mask to take care of that. I don't think I would want to do any long distance riding in this type of weather. I am running Mobil 0 - W 40 synthetic oil and a bit of Sea Foam in the gas. Tom SW Pennsylvania

T'was 8 degrees at my house, mine too, fired right up, ran back in the house for about ten minutes, hot coffee, went back out and turned the bike off, what a relief to know it will start in this kind of weather . I'll go for the not hearty part. I'm in the mountains of Colorado and we've seen below 0 temps almost every morning around here. I was in Moab yesterday for some work and it was 2 above 0 in the morn.

Well Judd, It was slightly better here at only +4F some 300m West of you...a full 15F warmer than yesterd--riding? cough, I mused about riding...however, I went to church 3x and checked the KLR 'heat lamp' and battery tender on the way out and on the way back. revmaaatin. 3x at church because that is what a Methodist Circuit rider (cough) riding a 'Saturn' does....

We had Ice in the Ditch at my house yesterday morning in South Most Louisiana. I didn't even consider going outside and starting my bikes, or boat, or lawnmowers or generator. 32 is just way too cold for this older dude. ... Saturday, when I got up it was -11 F.. and my truck growled pretty loud and long when I fired it up after it warmed up. Headed out west of the city and the swamps where frozen solid and smooth, the sun was in perfect position for a photo... and my camera was at home did'nt figure I needed it at a wake service done at an American Legion... nice stepped throught the door and got a beer. Bike is in winter storage, for me up here, but riding season is longer at least for me down here in Chicago area, just no fun places to ride. Got some Bad Ass Wannabe bikers I know that just keep nagging me to get a HD, almost jumped at one. Sportster with a Screaming Eagle 1200, with either a supercharger or a blower (forgot) he would have gave it to me for $5500 !! Just wanted what he owed so he could get some other model HD.
