That's exactly what I was doing when I lost second. Now I have
installed the 685 piston and done lots of other work to it for more
power and now I'm worried its going to happen again. By the way, the
685 piston when you let it breath makes for one very fun bike!!!

Just received my second set of MEFOs from Fred. The current set has 6K
on them and still doing good up on the slimy roads and culm piles in
coal-country. My buddy was running an Anakee front and Tourance rear
and routinely left me in the dust while traveling the hard roads but
when we got to the culm-pile-playground, he chose to sit at the bottom
of the hill - not enough grip.
I'll have to change these warriors out prior to the bike's state safety
inspection due in August. At that time, I should have 8-9K on them.
Although a little buzzy, these have always gripped the road, dirt,
gravel, mud to my satisfaction.
