How many of you guys know women who manage KLR 650s? I would like to put my wife on a lowered one, for some adventure riding. It is our hope after the our son is college (in three years), we can begin planning some trips exploring North and Central America. She has done some riding, but not bikes of this size. Before we go that direction I would be interested in knowing others experiences. Thanks. Keith Idaho KLR

<><><><><><> <><><><><><> Keith, I know one. She's also ridden an F650 and is currently on something else which I can't remember. I've never seen her ride but I've ridden with her husband. If she stays up with him she must not have a problem with it. She's pretty short, like I'd guess maybe 5'1" or so. I think the KLR was lowered. I'm almost positive the F650 was. Hi Keith, I met this couple from Red Deer, Alberta, some years ago when they rode ST1100s. They have since sold those bikes and purchased KLR650s for a grand adventure. http://www.kellarwt.com/ Mike Martin, Louisville, KY --- hobbhavnklr650 wrote:

Hi all...I received this link from one of the electronic parts suppliers that I buy parts from, RAE Electronics, in Canada. The link below will take you to a selection of NTE switches that look pretty good for KLR accessory useage....have a great evening....Greg http://www.nteinc.com/switches/pdf/waterproof.pdf

Real women ride their own KLR. My wife, at a mere 55 years old, has ridden her KLR in Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize. I did lower her bike as she's only 5'5" and 120# soaking wet. So far we have 14,000 adventure miles in the last year and a half. We're saving our nickels and dimes now as we plan on another Mexico/Central America adventure starting in November of this year. This trip is planning on being 6 months. This time we are hoping to do all of Central America including making it to the Panama Canal.

Unfortunately, Shelly has bonded with my DR650, meaning that if we do a dual sport ride together, I have to ride the KLR. She is perfectly capable of managing the KLR, but she just won't admit it, because she prefers the DR, as do I for most purposes. Truth be told, she is happiest on her R80ST, unless she gets into a little sand, which flips her out. Frankly, I wish she would quit whining.

I knew of one. JCPenny catalog model, enjoyed riding in Baja. Had a unique method of checking her KLR's chain-slack. RIP, hon. RM

Maybe the original question should have included how many women KLR 650 riders are there on the list? There is at least one.
