grippy footpegs
A while back someone posted part #s for Suzuki serrated metal footpegs
and the necessary hardware for attaching them to a KLR. Does anyone
have this info and/or know what model Suzuki they're from? Also, if
you have these pegs, what do you think of them compared to the usual
aftermarket pegs for KLRs?
Thanks, Gerry

I have the Suzuki pegs, which come from the DR650 if I remember
correctly. Can't remember the PN, but I think it's in the FAQ. You
can get better, wider pegs, but these are cheap and do the trick. I
keep thinking I'll sharpen them up a bit one day but haven't gotten
to it. These are the pegs the KLR should come with, perhaps with
little removable rubber inserts like on my DR-Z for the street riders.

Gerry,
Info on the Suzuki pegs is on the FAQ.
There are some other pegs on eBay now, item number 120205798022:

or http://tinyurl.com/2t4zvf
They look to me like the IMS stainless steel pegs except they're not described
as being stainless and are not quite as sharp-toothed.
I have the IMS pegs and they are pretty vicious. Plus, I had to install an IMS
shift lever in order for my boot to fit underneath.
Usual disclaimers apply,

<><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Gerry, I'm using the DR650 springs with DR650 pegs. Part number I'm using is: 09448-15008 Springs need 2 ea. For the pegs the numbers are: 43560-44B10-019 Left need 1 ea. 43550-44B10-019 Right need 1 ea. A few weeks ago they weren't available from bike bandit dot com but www.ronayers.com had them. These are the only aftermarket pegs I've put on my KLR so don't have a reference for comparison. Martin Earl did have some similar pegs he got off eBay (I think) when he was last out here for some riding. They were wider, more like I think the IMS pegs are like. I want to be able to easily change my foot angle on the peg so the narrower peg works better for me. I'm not sure but I don't think he kept the eBay pegs on his bike after the first day of riding. Maybe he'll chime in on this. Gerry, This is the item/footpegs Jeff was talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-XR-50-70-80-100-KAWASAKI-KLR-650- BLACK-FOOT- PEGS_W0QQitemZ120205798022QQihZ002QQcategoryZ35588QQssPageNameZWDVWQQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem (cut and paste the entire shebang) or Item number: 120205798022 I believe they are 'cast' IMS foot peg clone and not a forged, or cold-rolled steel foot peg, which is not obvious in the ad. I also believe would break if they hit the pavement really hard, vs. the DR foot pegs that would simply bend. Not an issue for me, just the facts, ma'am. Just like an IMS foot peg, these foot pegs will significantly move your foot position rearward and upward in relation to the shift pedal and brake pedal. On my KLX300R with IMS pegs, I get along just fine with the IMS pegs--even with full MX boots. With the IMS 'clone pegs' on the KLR650, I had to move my foot from the peg to shift, and the rear brake pedal was nearly useless; several on the list have done small mods of adding a 'pad' to the top of their brake pedal to make it in-line with the longitudinal axis of their foot. shrug. Our friend AJ Clifford (aka Reaps;as well as many on this list) has IMS foot pegs on his KLR and gets along just fine, cough, but he has a size 13 foot! Shoving the instep of the foot rearward, only makes it easier for him to shift. I used the IMS clone (dead ringer for the real deal on the KLX) for about 6 hours on the KLR and moved back to the narrower DR pegs. The wide IMS peg is GREAT for standing on, which I do a lot of on both the KLX and the KLR, but with full MX boots, it was not a good mod for me on the KLR. It might work fine for you. The good for me, they also fit the XR100, which I will fit these pegs too. Which is to say, all farkle does not work equally well for all folks. Jeff ordered 4 or 5 sets of these DR things and they were all installed on our bikes before we pushed off on the GDR in 2004. Never regretted having them once! I only bought the one's listed above in the ebay ad because I liked them so well on the KLX300R; installed when I bought it new-to-me with only 45 miles on the clock. The KLR seat is another great example: Jeff gets along just fine with a stock seat, and after 30 minutes riding in the stock seat, I can barely walk after I get off the bike. I rode that beast that way some 18-19K smiles before I gave up and went to a flat Corbin--only because I was desperate. Not a perfect solution, but one I can live with. Kind of sad, the KLR comes with a crappy rubber coated foot peg that will not safely support your foot if you stand up when it is wet, let alone if it has mud on it. IMO--Serrated foot pegs are a must have-- just from a safety standpoint, even if you never leave the pavement deliberately. revmaaatin.> after the first day of riding. . I ordered mine from
Ron Ayers Motorsports, then they languished in a box for some time until I got some new
boots that were very slippery with the stock pegs. Compared to the usual aftermarket pegs,
these are a bit smaller and not as wide, and maybe not as sharp. They work well with the
dual-sport boots I bought though, which have a rubber sole (not hard like some motocross
boots). Very sticky, when I'm putting any weight at all on them even just the weight of my leg
my feet simply don't budge. Personally I find the aftermarket pegs to be too big and to chew
up the soles of boots, but that's probably because I'm not wearing motocross boots, where
those are probably virtues.
The part numbers are in the KLR FAQ (see bottom of this message> A while back someone posted part #s for Suzuki serrated metal footpegs > and the necessary hardware for attaching them to a KLR.
