Wait, you're calling the French pussies when in the US you get anally
probed before flying, have your facial expressions analyzed for
terrorist intent by a bunch minimum wage GED TSA agents, can be arrested
for taking pictures in public spaces and have elected a complete moron
to two terms? They have their own problems in France, but hell, at least
they're not currently democratizing a country at gunpoint, while at the
same time undermining those same freedoms in their own country.
Ah, yes, thank god us Americans weren't running the race, because then
we'd act on false intelligence, smash and destroy everything, pay out
billions of dollars to whom? we don't know, install a puppet government,
become even more universally reviled by the rest of the world, and then
have the gall to call it a "war on terror".
No really. This was the right decision when you consider the thousands
of people that they would knowingly be putting at risk. It's only a
race.
But then you're an American, and we're always right, right?

I can't get my mind around this, it's unbelieveable - Truly a sad day
for the Dakar.

Like they say on the clip - It's like cancelling the Super Bowl 10
minutes before the kick off.

Hey Zack,
Happy New Year! Good to see/hear you are alive! Ah, the doldurms of
winter. Always a great time for a political thread, guns, religion,
etal; and while we are writing, the boys of the left coast are
riding/laughing at the rest of us wx-challenged pigeons. shrug.
How about those caucus last night? See anybody that was really
presidential?
Watching the national wx, I am guessing your bike is huddled in the
garage (mine is--on the charger and the 'heat-lamp' on the clutch/oil
reservoir) waiting for some intrepid KiLleRista to bring it to life.
Speaking of wx forecast: Just a short jaunt West from here, fellow
poster Jeff Saline can push his bike out of the garage, read 0mph on
the GPS and have 60 mph winds in his face just standing still! Now,
that would give the old KLR a real boost--60mph tail winds at full
throttle, should be able to register about 110+mph. Might just be a
land speed record in SD for such attainment.

Thank you for that. It's a relief to know that there are a few other
Americans out there who realize that mindless jingoism is no
substitute for genuine patriotism, a virtue which our service-shirking
president and VP would not recognize if they tripped over it.

Whether you agree with cancelling the Dakar or not, this helps put it
into perspective from the organizers point of view.

Seems to me that canceling a world-class sporting event like the Dakar because some terrorist group makes a threat is setting a very poor precedent. OK, so you might say, "Who cares, I'm not interested in off-road racing. Let them cancel. I'd rather watch NASCAR/Super Bowl/World Series/Billiards/Naked Ice Dancing/etc. Yeah? Well what do you suppose the "terrorists" have learned from this? "Hey, Mohamed! Whaddaya say we send a threat to the organizers of "NASCAR/Superbowl/WorldSeries/Billiards/Naked Ice Dancing/etc" ! Bet we can get them to scratch those evil, Allah-offending, western, sporting events too!"
Yep, the Dakar cancellation is just the beginning. Other terrorist groups will no doubt see this as another "tool" to use against those in authority. I sure hope I'm wrong on this, but time will tell.

I saw this ad and thought of the KLR's currently sitting in cold garages. I
don't have any experience with this charger, but for the current sale price
of U.S. $4.99, I thought it might interest some of you. If the link does not
take you directly to the charger, try searching harborfreight.com for item
number 42292.

Lars in VA, still riding.
