I think the only time religion or politics should be mentioned on a forrum like this is if a group of god worshippers, devil worshippers, goat worshippers Hilary Clinton fan club KLR riders or whatever worshippers are going to have a ride together somewhere and are organising or announcing it. That and mention of any upcoming legislation or political action that will inhibit freedom to ride your KLR. Religion and politics are your business and I'm not interested. If I was, I'd be on a God Bothering, Devil Dodging, Bible bashing site. I will fight tooth and nail for your right to worship dog or whatever, but I don't need the details.
With a recent involvement in Law Enforcement Intel, it is obvious to me that christianity and Islam use extremely similar recruiting and indocrination practices, as do most other religious bodies and groups.
Go for it, but leave us out of it, come and see me when someone stops you worshipping (or not) as you please and I will go into bat for you, but otherwise, leave it out.
Thanks.

Another Big NKLR! Posted by: "Alan L Henderson" hortonhearsawho@... alhendersonusa Thu Dec 13, 2007 8:26 am (PST) This is only YOUR truth! It is only valid for you. This topic may not
specifically be against the list rules but this conversation belongs in
between you and your god. In general politics and religion are very
touchy subjects and cause great problems on a list such as ours.

Holy jeebus, would you bible thumpers please just go out and ride? I
don't want hear any more about the "one true god", the "true and
accurate bible". Maybe the "one true cylinder" or the "one true
stoichiometric ratio" would be worth talking about, but not this crap.
If you really think that you follow the bible and that the bible is
wholly and infallibly accurate and true, then I'd recommend reading "The
Year of Living Biblically" by AJ Jacobs. The bible is book and
inaccurate at best and farcical at worst.

And when you try to have a logical intelligent conversation people take it personally.
Just be glad we live in a country that allows us to have this conversation (no mater how
pissed off we get at each other) without being tried for crimes against the state. They have
hung people for such statements both pro and against religion. Hell the Germans wanted to
kill anything that was not Catholic and the Chinese wanted to kill anyone that believed in any
religion.
And with that I believe I'll have another beer.

NKLR - Separation of church and motorcycles Posted by: "pecos1046" pecos1046@... pecos1046 Thu Dec 13, 2007 9:46 am (PST) I am a proponent of separating motorcycles from church, religion.etc. But since this is
probably not very likely to happen any time soon. Therefore, I can only hope that we keep the
discussions civil and positive.
I can't help commenting that in the past I have seen many comments that reflects peoples
personal religious beliefs without much reaction that this may not be appropriate for a KLR
discussion group. Given that, I think that comments from people that belief otherwise are fair
game.
Cheers,
Peter

Torsion Spring? Posted by: "imfreelandian" gerryp@... imfreelandian Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:15 pm (PST) I'm new to KLR 650s, just got a really nice '04. I've got a doohickey
on the way from Arrowhead, but now I'm wondering if it would be
worthwhile to also install a torsion spring instead of the one that
comes with the kit. Opinions?
Thanks, Gerry

Gerry,
Welcome to the list and KLR ownership. I say put in the torsion spring.
I've done a few doohickeys with extension springs and redid one with a
torsion spring and have installed a few with torsion springs from the
start. Next time I go into my KLR I'm putting in a torsion spring. It's
been on the shelf for about 6-8 months now. At about 15,000 miles I went
in to check on the tension on the extension spring which came with the
doohickey. It was almost out of tension. I replaced it then with the
shorter spring. If the torsion spring was available then I would have
saved myself one trip into the engine.
Best,

Lowering links, 4 inches? Posted by: "davidfallon441" davidinwa@... davidfallon441 Thu Dec 13, 2007 6:01 pm (PST) Hi all;
I need a little advise. A fellow at work is interested in buying my
KLR, but he feels it is too tall. He being a machinist, we worked out
some new lowering links. Well, the math went awry and the bike is 4
inches lower. We were shooting for 3 inches. Is this too much? Any
clearance issues at that or other lowered distances?
How much can I lower the front end for him if I slide the tubes up in
the triple trees?
Thanks.
I hope that doing without my KLR is short temporary thing.

I am sure that your friend will have problems with wheel/tyre clearance with
a 4" lowering. Others may chime in shortly but I'm pretty sure the tyre will
hit the underside of the rear guard and also the pegs will scrape very early
in any leaning.
Cheers
