BMW techno-warts and all, I can't help but feel this F800GS is a big step in the direction I'm hoping to take with my next bike. Still, one thing continues to puzzle me about the BMW GS series... what is the purpose of that bodywork beak over the front fender? Does it direct airflow to the radiator, deflect water during river crossings or what? Steve, thinking about the possibilities of a Panzerkampfwagen F800GS in Norman, OK A13 --------------- People were all over the F800GS, which won't be at dealers until March '08. Very nice looking bike, no heavier than the KLR and almost twice the power. It also costs twice as much... Snip Peter '73 BMR R75/5, '04 BMW R1150RA

As you stated, the "bill" is probably designed to direct airflow through the radiator. Every year I go to the Vintage Motorcycle Days at the Mid-Ohio race course, and most years BMW is there offering demo rides. All of the new designs (twins and the 650) exhaust the radiator's hot air up high near your legs, which results in hot nuts. I like my old air-cooled BMW twin where I never notice the hot air. Just think of those 50 extra horsepower as wart remover 8~) Not sure what the beak does, but it's been there since the first R1100GS showed up many moons ago. Seems to be getting shorting over time, like our little toes. __Arden

Actually... BMW copied the beak from Suzuki's DR Big which was the first to employ a rigid, fixed front fender. Gino
