I'm an ex Cruiser owner. I'm strictly an adventure rider now. 2007 KLR-650. I have a very nice heavy leather coat, but it is just too heavy. I'm looking for a high quality, warm, water proof armored, highly visible coat at a good price. I'm medium in size. Any help would be appreciated. <><><><><><> <><><><><><> Robert, I suggest you consider a First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket with the liner that comes with it. I've had mine for 4 years and it works well in warm to cold temps. I also use it with an electric vest when temps are below maybe 40 degrees and the ride is more than 20 minutes. When it gets to about 90 degrees it can get uncomfortable but I also have the Kili in the air mesh tend to wear it in cool to hot (107 is hottest so far) temps. You might have good luck finding one locally. If not maybe check them out at www.newenough.com . Check out the last remaining NOS Belstaff deals on ebay ~$69-$119; there may be some left in your size. In my experience, Belstaff is the warmest, driest gear, and has great armour. My only other advice is to avoid Joe Rocket like the plague. Mark

Belstaff has been making motorcycle jackets since the days of cantelever forks and timing advance gidgits on the handlebar. They are for whatever reason getting out of this business in favour of up market (ridiculously priced) leather jackets and boots for some unknown reason (well the models with the boots actually look pretty cute so maybe that could be the reason). But anyway to the point.... there are some very good buys on the internet on Belstaff adventure style jackets... waterproof, totally made with the motorcyclist in mind (no flapping collars, long sleeves, zip out lining, etc.) not especially heavily armoured but some kevlar thread in strategic places... I got one in the spring for around $125 plus shipping and loved it from the first day.... orginal price was over $400! Mine model was the Belstaff Trekker.... there are others some shorter ones that I was not interested in. Check out the dealers who are selling these off, eBay, Craigslist, etc. Good luck, Brent. ________________________________ From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com on behalf of Tengai Mark Van Horn Sent: Wed 24/10/2007 4:09 PM To: Robert Waters Cc: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] wanting to buy coat At 5:37 AM -0700 10/24/07, Robert Waters wrote:

I have a Kilamanjaro jacket with the liner. Good for a wide range of temps, lots of pockets, good body armor. The next jacket I get will be from motoport.com. I saw a demo they put on at a tech day about a year ago. Huge improvement in quality of protection provided by the material the jacket is made of over anything I've seen. Law enforcement all over the country is buying their stuff. I know that their pants, jackets are more expensive than others, but I'm an old guy and don't heal nearly as quickly as I used to. I've earned the money. I'm worth it. I have no affiliation with the company. Just really sold on their product. Chuck

Don't forget to take a look at the Aerostich coats. I have one that's 12 years old and needs to be replaced. You can get them in a lot of colors inclusing hi-viz. They're not cheap but they are waterproof and you can put in a liner to make them nice and warm. Just one guy's opinion /experience.

Which Belstaff gear has great armor? Last time I looked it barely had padding? If you mean the oiled cotton, it also has the tendency to stick not slip in a slide.

Unfortunately Interwhatiz has ruined the Kili since you bought yours. The new pocket and vent closures do not fully waterproof it like the old ones did (but did solve the complaint "it's too hard to get into the pockets!"). So buy rain gear at the same time you buy a new Kili :-(. That said, it does have lots of pockets, and for a water-resistant (but not water-proof) jacket does have very good ventilation. Once the temperature hits 80F I haul out the mesh gear instead, but below that it's a good jacket. Just not as good as it used to be :-(. -E

Well! I take offense to that, seeing as I have a Joe Rocket Ballistic 4000 Jacket and Pants - although, now that I think about it.... the lining is ill conceived, the pants are coming apart at the seams and the velcro is losing its stickiness. Reconsidering - maybe you're right! Jim A5 = = Check out the last remaining NOS Belstaff deals on ebay ~$69-$119; there may be some left in your size. Check out www.olympiamotosports.com. They make good stuff in bright colors. The jacket liner they use in several models is warm, waterproof, and looks good enough to wear by itself. I've got the Patton jacket in bright orange and love it. Another good option is the Canyon II from Motoport, but they don't make any hi-viz colors. __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Robert Waters wrote:
