I purchased a Givi rear trunk, I am wondering if anyone has used this mount,
and is there good instruction on the net somewhere of someone mounting it to
a KLR.
Thanks

My Givi is in its third year, lots of nasty off road, crashes, dumps and hundreds of miles of rough gravel. No problems to date. Comes off and locks on over and over just like its supposed to do.
Great product. Just line the rack up so it is centred and drill the holes, bolt it down and done!
Fast Eddie Copeman had a post regarding improving the bolt sizes for the rear rack which is worth considering. I just haven't gotten to it as yet.
Post directly if you want measurements and/or a photo.

I was hoping not to drill holes but if that's the way it is suppose to be
done I guess I will have to drill the holes.
Thanks for your input guys.

I mounted my Givi mount directly to my rack. Drilled 4 holes and
bolted the mount in place. It works great. Solid. Am very happy with
the whole system. Only wish I had gone a little bigger. I currently
have a 33 liter box ... could probably gone with a 40 or 42 liter job
but I think the 33 liter looks pretty good.

Wait, stop! Don't drill!
I just mounted mine up yesterday, super easy. Here's the instructions I
used:
http://www.themcdonalds.net/richard/bike/klr650/mods/givitop.shtml
Do me a favor and let me know how important those long silver metal strips
that go between the rack and the mount plate seem? My kit was missing them
(I bought it used.)
I think I'm going to re-mount shortly in a non-standard way to allow more
passenger room and tool kit access. There's some special expensive version
from Happy Trails that seems to do that. Anyone know how it's different or
have tips for non-standard Givi plate mountings?
Cheers,
Reed.

If riding off road, the Givi applies a lot of force to the mountings. Make sure that it is well bolted to the rack. It would also be worth while to review Fast Eddie Copeman's post regarding the possible need to upgrade the rack bolts.
Having a luggage issue while on a back country trip is a very nasty development.

I have the Givi rear trunk and platform from Dual Star - very good
setup. Very stable and handy - holds 2 helmets. The plate just bolts
down to the rack that's already on the bike - shouldn't require much in
the way of instructions. But I'm sure it comes with a sheet explaining
how to put it on.
Good luck,
Ryan
