That DRZ400 based SM that Suzuki sells is very nice. There has been a change in the U.S. distribution of parts from Husqvarna, if I remember correctly, and I have been told by friends who own them that parts aren't nearly as difficult to come by as they were in the past. If your son isn't inclined to wrench on the bike himself, your best bet at disuading him might be in terms of maintenance, as I believe the maint requirements of the Husky are going to be a step higher than the Suzuki.
