I think someone from this list mentioned Ebay as a source of earplugs. Thanks, I now have 100 pairs for $ .15 apiece, such a deal! I guess I won't have to keep wearing them until the Center for Disease Control come by.

As mentioned..... The ear plugs I have are Max-1 from Howard Leight: http://www.envirosafetyproducts.com/html/leight_hearing.htm I bought these back in the late '80s. Nice to see they are still available. Guy

Anyone know where I can purchase some medical grade silicone? I'd like to try making some custom ear plugs but my attempts to find the raw materials just turn up finished products. This whole need for ear plugs is a real pain. Why couldn't humans have evolved to lids for their ears like they have for eyes? Earlids would have been much more useful than earlobes. Try the Silencio Silent Partner earplugs, about $5 a set. They are made of medical grade silicone. I get about 6 months out of a set useing them every day. Thanks. Those look interesting. I was hoping to be able to manufacture a pile of plugs customized for my own 'unique' physiology but I lack raw materials. Mike, Have you considered using aquarium grade silicone? If it won't kill fish I imagine it would be safe for us humans. I have some down in the basement but I'm sure you can buy it just about anywhere? I think. Lesley A19 - too be liberated (the bike that is) tomorrow I hope

Here's a link to a motorcycle oriented company that makes custom silicone earplugs. They do it in the field like at bike shows and such but I think they sell a home kit too. There's a releasing agent that they apply to the ear canal before filling it with silicone. Don't know about the cost. There's a link at the bottom of this page to the BigEar websit where they list there products. James http://vtwinplus.com/Jan2005/techspotlitebigear.htm

Thanks. I saw these guys at a MC show and got the idea to try it myself and save a few $$'s. I think it was about $69 or $79 USD for a pair of custom fitted plugs and a few hundred for ones with speakers. If I had the raw materials I could probably make a whole bucket of plugs for that much. Of course any money I save may be offset by Emergency Room fees to uncork my ears but its worth a try. Or maybe I could just tinker with my chromosomes and grow ear lids.
