I bought a center stand on ebay; one of the ones that has a metal rod to push on (with your foot) to get the bike up on the stand. And, I LOVE IT! It makes cleaning the chain a lot easier. I did not know that the chain was a silver/gray color! Mine was that dirty. So dirty that I got tired of cleaning it and will have to work on it some more to get it (and keep it) truly clean/lubed. I regret that up to now, I was lubing the dirt that was on the chain! I recommend a centerstand to most anyone. I know that some of you don't like center stands because they tend to bottom out when off road. I don't do off road - I use my KLR as a daily commuter. Just my 2 cents. Keep an eye on your foot peg mounting bolts. I've read many posts about mounting thread problems. I have a center stand and have replaced my bolts with grade 12.8s and keep a pretty tight wrench on them. It's been pointed out to me that there could be some paybacks for adding hardware to what's already been identified as a KLR "less-than-optimal" peg mounting set up. Anyone else have any thoughts on the effect of center stands on mounting peg bolts/threads? Thanks, Chuck C San Diego, CA

<><><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><><><> Chuck, I use a centerstand and had one bolt strip the threads in the captured nut a few years ago. I replaced all four footpeg bolts with M10 bolts. To do that I had to drill out the footpeg brackets and centerstand and tap the holes in the captured nuts to M10. They've been working fine ever since. The footpeg brackets are very hard and you better have sharp drills. I think using a mill would make the job easy.
