G'Day. Dealer says 1'st check on a KLR should be done at 1600km(1000m), even
though the book says to do it at 800km(500m). Says too early to do the valve
adjustment, his experience is that if done now it may require shims again
soon and if left to 1000m the clearances will be stable by then.
I'm at 800km now, and I'm tempted to do most of the rest of the adjustments
myself now, and get the full service between 500 & 1000m. Suggestions
please?

Do the oil change earlier then required, but the valve thing
sounds about right. An extra 500 miles before doing the valves
will not hurt anything.

Hi Steve.
So, is the dealer going to contact Kawasaki to have them revise the manual? I'm forever impressed with dealers who have more knowledge of products than the manufacturers. Check their service schedule. Sounds like they're stalling for time.
I doubt that extending the duration for the valve check/adjustment by a couple hundred miles would have a negative effect. Nonetheless, doubling the period may not impress KHI if you had to make a warranty claim as a result of damaged valves or valve components.
