Quite.

On the subject of riding courses... I'll be in San Francisco early next month and thinking of enrolling on some kind of road riding course, something to get up to speed on traffic laws and such, I believe there are a couple of small differences from here on the other side of the pond, well certainly our parts. Come to think of it, it'd be fun to find somewhere that hires out KLR's? Anyone in the Bay area got any suggestions?

I entered the Connecticut three day riding course thinking that I should
"ride like I'm invisible". I came out of the program riding "like there all
out to get ya".

The only thing I know of that'd be close is a 1200GS from Dubbelju
http://www.dubbelju.com/> (pronounced double-JEW). I had a buddy
from the Triumph list visit and rent a 1150R from them for a day so
we could go riding. Good service, well maintained bike.

Attempting to read between the typos but not sure what you're getting at there Reverend..

There was a tea party to sort all that out back when.. I believe.
But thanks for the tip -- it's not so much the stepping off curbs that gets me -- it's the actual having to stop at crossings at all (on foot). In England pedestrians basically just do what they like, don't think there's even such a thing as 'Jay-walking', but yes you get to go again if you can look the right way... heheh.
Part of Eurpean mindset is summed up in that phrase.. 'In England everything is permitted unless it's forbidden, in Germany everything is forbidden unless it's permitted, in Italy everything is permitted even if it's forbidden'.

Thanks Blake -- looks like just the ticket -- not too expensive either. Although FWIW I'll prolly make do with the F650GS for this trip. That's a little closer to the KLR at least from a size and power pov. mind you the older model road-bike beamers look a lot of fun too.

Many thanks for that.
And to Eric for the course link and the rev for erhh.. the crossing-the-road hint -- looks like I'm all set.

Yeah Bob,
It's all fun. Including the apology for such a poorly edited post.
What's not 'in-fun' is the warning--Do look left before stepping off
the curb. Folks talking on a cell phones will kill you dead.
If you get to South Dakota, I can show you some great dual sport
roads AND I know where most of the hospitals in my area are located,
or at least I know where the helo-pad is located.

Rev, all good. Won't make it to S.D. on this trip but hope to soon, I'll give you a shout when that happens. I've heard it's a beautiful place - a friend of mine met a dear somewhere round your parts. He (the dear) and my friend's beautiful old Carmen Ghia made the journey to the happy hunting grounds together that night. With any luck I won't be needing that helo-pad but good to know it's there...

Good afternoon at the ORV park I hope -- how did Mom like the XR? I took my better half out on a Pan at the weekend, roadwork of course, except for a couple of wrong turns

but I don't think she's ready for the park just yet...
All the best,
Bob.
