Hello, from Sunny FL. Well, at least its sunny when it's not raining which is almost everyday during this time of year. I am finally the proud owner of 1999 (A-13)KLR with 7500 miles on it. I've wanted one of these bikes for 15 years but college, 3 kids and low paying jobs kept me from having one until now. However, last month I came across this bike and I had a little extra money so now it is sitting in my garage beside my 2001 Kawasaki ZR7S. I wanted to thank all of you for the wealth of KLR knowledge which is freely dispersed through this group. After reading your stories and thoughts on "the beast," I couldn't pass it up so hopefully I'll be able to add my own thoughts concerning this two-wheel smile producer in the near future. Oh, by the way, my wife doesn't share the same "warm-fuzzies" for all of you since I spent our Mickey Mouse Money to buy it. So don't plan on stopping by for dinner if you visit Florida. One quick note about the bike: I knew from all I'd read that this bike was tall but why didn't someone warn new KLR owners to duck when going under an overpass? I still haven't gotten use to high fiving truck drivers when they pass me, however, I do enjoy the added feeling of security that comes from being seen! That's all for now. Hi Troy, Mouse money, smouse money, Load the KLR on a trailer, bring the wife and kids to SD. I got spare Honda XR 100, a 70 and an 80 bikes (today, who knows about tomorrow) for the 11 and 7 year yo and wide open places to ride. (Bring your own helmet.) mouse money NO, it KLR money now!!!! Wait till she finds the DUAL STAR, ARROWHEAD bills. heh, heh, heh. My lil' bikes are an extension of our youth ministry, particularly youth-at-risk category. I let them ride the bikes; they come to church. Two of the bikes are 'loaners' from a parishioner, and we receive other help along the way. That moniker, zr7_kawiguy...you should change that before coming to real kawboy country. (That funky, scandalous movie was filmed in Canada.) revtroy would be just fine. (yes, there are Baptist in South Dakota, and maybe a very fine place for you...not far from here in Pierre, SD) I'll get you an introduction if interested. Glad that revmaaatin replied to you on this. When I saw the career I figured that the rev and you would have to fight it out to see which one could stay, but I guess it is not really the same as with male lions. Live and learn. -- Doug Herr doug@...

Did you notice Doug, I invited him to join us in SD, aka God's country...as no one else seems to want it except one week of the year in August (sic-Sturgis). 51 weeks of the year for KLR's. That is God's country. revmaaatin.

It would be nice to get more specs on the Versys. Particularly fuel capacity and weight. I have one question regarding power. A 650 twin should make more peak power. On the other hand, would low end grunt (torque) be compromised? I do however, like the idea of a possible 275 lb. five gallon fuel tank, multi cylinder, multi surface machine. I'd definitely look at one if KHI (or any of the Japanese manufacturer) ever built one. Don Robert Striemer wrote:

The Euro model shown does not look like a real dual sport however which is not to say that a true twin dual sport might appear some time.
