clutch safety switch bypass flakiness

Good day: I've been lurking here for a while. The bike left me stranded today, thankfully only a mile from home. Thanks to the FAQ and this group, I immediately knew that the clutch safety switch was to blame. I've jumpered it and I got the bike home. Two questions: 1) Is there something that simply needs adjustment, such that I can remove the jumper I put in? 2) It seems that the neutral light is on anytime I have the clutch out. Have I only done half the job? I have not busted open the service manual yet, so apologies if this is covered there. Many thanks in advance for help. If you're in New Mexico, drop me a line and lets ride sometime! CHEERS -- Jack Bates Placitas, NM, USA I play Texas Hold'Em at http://www.fulltiltpoker.com

I tried to mount a set of Hepco-Beckers to the Happy Trails SU racks. Problem was the the HB panniers were supplied with mounts for a KTM system. Therefore, the mounts didn't fit. Just as well. The dealer was originally asking over $1000.00 for them but that was with the KTM rack system. Considering that they were of no use to me, I settled for the HT racks and adapted a couple of Tough Box tool boxes to fit. Check out the photos is the Econobox Pannier folder. I have been using these boxes for a couple of months now. Mostly on back roads and washboard gravel. They seem to be holding up well. Each box is approx. 25 litres volume and compared to the HB tin cans, these are far more resilient. The aluminum cans are very thin. In my opinion, if you dropped the bike and mangled the lid on the HB set, the lid is not going back on. The tool boxes are built of a material known as construction foam (whatever that is). It's around a quarter of an inch thick and very much crack resistant. They can take a very hard lick with no damage whatsoever. They do provide excellent protection for the bike if it falls over. I would assume that in the event of a slide on the side, the box would grind down before it would tear off. I have used through bolts in the top threaded holes in the HT racks with locking nuts and washers on the inside of the box. Therefore making them very difficult to remove unless you have access to the inside. The boxes are lockable with small pad locks. To take them off takes less than a minute if you have access to the inside of the box. And, here's the best part, the boxes cost $31.00 Canadian each and are readily available and Chinadian Tire. If your heart is set on factory built panniers, check out Happy Trails. They have some solid looking aluminum units for a reasonable price and two excellent mounting rack systems.
