I keep hearing on the news that there increasing the ethanol amount in our gasoline. Is this going to affect our KLR's? bone A6F

If it starts to knock, up the octane a notch or two and keep going. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Yes, you will probably be buying more gas. I believe the ethanol blends get worse mileage than straight gasoline. Rick

I run ethanol blend (10%)gasoline in my pickup and I get better gas mileage than straight petroleum derived gasoline. Haven't noticed a difference on the KLR.

You're the lucky one. Its pretty well proven that alcohol will deliver less MPG. I did some "googling" and found reports of around 20% worse. Thats with E85, which is 85% alcohol. Check it out here http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byfuel/FFV2001.shtml Here in Washington County in Wisconsin we have to burn a blend of alcohol/gasoline. I've been loging 35000 miles per year with all different blends and can tell no difference. I'm told the advanced electronics pretty much compensates for the difference in blends. My mileage has been very consistent. As far as advanced electronics on the KLR, I" haven't located it yet.

Mileage may go down, but overall, greenhouse gas emissions will go down. This is a good thing. I'm not sure how much E85 is per gallon, but hopefully it ends up being cheaper than gasoline. Perhaps once there is an efficient infrastructure it will be. Mileage is meaningless if we're paying less overall for fuel and reducing emissions. Ofcourse we won't be able to trek as far on the bike but it's a small price to pay for cleaner air. That's just my opinion. Mike --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:

Well...I just purchased the Green 650KLR. After listening to everyone ...I decided...hell yeah..."the gas prices also made a little more easier to convince the wife". Wish me luck! Streetman
