I am going on a 10,000+ km trip in May, and will be out for approximately one month. Most of the riding will be on asphalt, with some gravel roads thrown in (The trail riding will be later this summer in the Alaska/Yukon/Northwest Territories trip). After reviewing the KLR650 Tire page, I've decided to try out the Bridgestone Trailwings for this trip. However, the page has comments on the TW41 and TW42 instead of the TW21 & TW22. The tread pattern is quite different, with the TW21 & 22 having a more solid centre than the TW41 & 42. I'll probably get better wear on the street with the 21 & 22, but I'm wondering about performance on the gravel sections. I'd appreciate any comments on either series of the Trailwings. - Michael A19 Terrace, BC

Michael, I have run the TW41/42 combo and found them a nice combination for ashpalt and dirt. On gravel I feel it depends on the the size of the stones, if it is fine and they can cut through then OK, if it is coarser then you bounce around a bit. Here in Australia we can get the TW42 in a 130/90 x 17 which made for slightly higher gearing (lower revs). I got 6000Km from the rear and replaced it with a Pirelli Scorpion AT, while the front stayed on. I took them both off and replaced them with GP1's after the front had done 13000 Km, it is still in the garage in case I want to put that type of tyre on again. -- Gavin Broadford Victoria Australia KLR650A18 DL650K6 Home of the DSN-KLR650 searchable archive at:- http://dsnklr650.gavinmac.com

I guess I should be changing my doohickey from all that I hear. Does anyone know what I will need and where I can get an upgrade? I live in Stratford ON. I have 9600 km on my '04.
