Okay, I was just reading the archives in regards to traffic lights sensors. Someone mentioned that there is an electromagnetic device you can buy to put on your bike to trip the sensors. Anybody know where I can lay my paws on one, or at least plans to build one, I'm sure it'd be rediculously simple.

From one who has worked on traffic signal and vehicle detection
systems let me say, don't waste your money on any such device. Proper
positioning of your bike in the detection field is all that is
needed. Try to park right over one of the sawcuts in the road,
preferably not the center cut as it is usually in the oil. This and
the corners are the hottest part of the "loop". The height of the
magnetic feild is 1/2 the shortest dimension, most common loops are
6x50, 6x6, 6x30 or 6" circle. All should give a 3' high feild well
within the case height of our bikes. If you find one that is
consistant in not detecting you report it, some amplifier tuning may
be needed. Only metal will cause the needed inductive change, no
electronic gadgets will do the job.

I haven't been riding for a few years, and forgot about an annoying
problem- my KLR doesn't have enough metal/weight or whatever to
activate traffic signals. Any suggestions? The worst are left turns-
and it's a lot of trouble to change all my routes so I only have to
make right turns!

Probably plenty of other manufacturers and dealers -- this is just the
first one I googled to.

It is frustrating though. I run the red if I cannot
trigger the light. Consider this: I there is not a car
behind you to trigger the light for you, then you are
likely in a very little traveled area (in most cases
anyway). In this case, blowing the light should be no
problem.
Cops know about this, if you even get pulled over and
he has never heard of this, the judge surely has? I am
certain it would be considered legal by a reasonable
judge. It is not your fault that the light wont
change...
PS: Look both ways before crossing!

Hey Ben, here's a thought I've been meaning to try:
Go to a farm supply or feed store and get one of those big cheap magnets
that they put into cow's stomachs to attract all the junk they eat. (nails,
metal stuff) You just slap it on the bottom of your bike, doesn't cost more
than maybe $5-10. And apparently it does the trick. Not only that, but if
you ride by a farm, it will attract all the cows to you too, sticking them
to the bottom of your bike one by one! FUN!!!
Learned this in my BRC course! I didn't even know they put magnets into
cow's stomachs prior to the course. Very helpful

Good morning. Actually this is the start of most 'crop circles'.
Often the magnets get aligned in a particular order which causes the cow
to get stuck front to back. They then wander around in circles trying
to break away.

Ben, I seem to have much better luck tripping lights when I look for the cuts in the asphalt where the wires are laid. I always stop directly over one of the three wires, as they're in line with the bike. Haven't had a problem in quite a while. But maybe that's a local thing, they might do these loops differently in other states.
