klr's greatest deficiency, can you lock both brakes.

It is possible! Last Friday on my way a semi blind woman with three kids in her tiny car skipped a stop sign and drove right in front of me!
First thought was - SH_T! I'll never stop. Both tyres do lock at the same time, you just have to pull them HARD. Locking the rear was very easy but trying not to lock the front is quite difficult and the whole time all the rumblings about bad brakes kept flashing through my head as the car came nearer and nearer. I missed the car by......too little for comfort.
Yeah, everybody's right the brakes are crappy to say the least.
This part is for the Sefricans on the list ( Kawa can't bring KLR's into the country quick enough! They're selling withing a week of arriving at he place I bought mine)
I went to a friend of who own a precision engineering place and he reckons it's no problem making bigger (320 mm) rotors. The first will obviuosly cost a bit, but if I order 10, he'll make a set, including the spacer and front and rear braided hoses for less than R1000. A lot cheaper than getting one from the States or even Europe. Contact me off list if you are interested at gixrepsold at yahoo dot com
Cheers
Btw. It seems that every time I really enjoy a ride it starts raining. I actually like dirt roads in the rain.

The discussion about weak brakes has me wondering
because I can lock up both
ends (rear is difficult not to lock up with the Kenda)
on dry pavement on
stock linings and hose. My A18 is still relatively new
so I wonder if some
are experiencing problems due to brake hose bulging?
