balancer chain replacement

hi guys , i just read the usd$30 balancer chain mail. and it got me thinking. cant i replace my balancer chain with some other chain with the same size and length? ok myabe they dont come with the silverish link markers butit should work as well. what about the timing chain? is there any known alternative replacement to it as well? thanks clint

Someone -- I think Zach -- sent a balancer chain from an engine he was rebuilding to an industrial chain company to see about having replacements made. The answer was basically that the chain was so unusually heavy for its size, they couldn't supply a replacement at a reasonable price. That would make me pretty skeptical of cheap replacements.

need used fan motor...

I don't know. However, if you cannot find one off of a KLR, somebody reported that a fan motor off an EX500 is the same. Rick
