Not sure how "old fashioned" they are. Maybe they use something else now, but then again all my bikes started their production life before '91. Its a fingered interlocking hub with rubber inserts. Might even be able to order the rubber part, it seems mine came out last time I had it apart. Have heard of rubber tire patches being used to shim it, whatever I would do I think I would make sure each hole is shimmed the same, otherwise the static load on the fingers might be reduced down to one finger taking all the torgue.
