discharging battery

Okay, I apologize in advance for my electrical questions. I am
stumped by this stuff. When my 1993 KLR is running at about 2500
rpm the volts at my battery are about 12.6. When I rev it up to
about 5,000 rpm there is no change in the voltage reading at the
battery still about 12.6. I don't think this is enough to
charge
the battery. Shouldn't it be about 13 volts? Also when I ride it
for about an hour the battery does not have enough power to start
the engine. I've checked all the connections and replaced the
starter relay (as it turns out I probably didn't have to do
that).
I've not replaced the stator or the R/R. Could this just be a
weak
battery? The battery was load tested and checked out fine. If I turn
on the high beams, use the signals with the engine not running the
battery reads just below 12 volts which seems okay to me. Have
any of you folks had trouble like this? Also has anyone here
purchased the aftermarket Electrex Stator and Regulator Rectifier?
I hear they are great, but they are a bit spendy.
I am new to the board, but have already asked quite a few questions
and the responses have been great. You folks are very generous with
your advice. Thanks.

Actually, my A13 shows about about 14.5V across the battery terminals
when running 2,500 RPM or higher.

It sounds like your battery isn't getting charged, and the headlight et
al. are draining the battery as you ride. Time to work through your
service manual's electrical troubleshooting steps to find out why your
battery isn't seeing any fresh juice.

Nope, I doubt it.

There were some quality problems with them a while ago, but they may
have fixed them since then because I haven't heard anybody complaining
about 'em in quite a while. Check the archive quicksearch for more
info on the problems people had with them.

Blake:
Below you mention something about an "archive quicksearch" to find
past discussions on the subject of the Electrex stator & regulator.
Since I'm also interested in juicing up my A15, can you give me (us)
some help on just how to do this search? Thanks.
The search available on our "messages" page just searches the page,
and I really don't want to go backwards page-by-page to find the
threads.

Hmmmm?
Not as exciting, but sounds like a good idea.
Think I'll check it out.
Thank you.

FWIW - My local Midas man swapped my rear spring for $10. I walked in
off the street and was outta there in 10 minutes. No sermons, your choice!
