Is there any dimensional difference that counts between standard and o-ring
chain?
Put another way, if stranded someplace, could a non o-ring chain be put on
the OEM (o-ring) sprockets to get home?
Or are the sprockets different widths for standard and o-ring chains?

I'm about to change my chain. Going with a masterlink type. I
usually just buy whatever the dealer has there, but you guys have so
much good info in your noggins, I thought you might have a preference
for chain type. Any preferences?

found one more thing you need in tool kit the hard way lost my chain
to day was 2 hours from home riding along great an alof a sudden i
heard this noise woke me up i thought i blow the engine pulled in
clutch rolled over to side of road reved engine it was ok got of bike
an there it was an empty rear sprocket so pushed bike up hill to a
spot an my girl freind called her nephew an by the grace of god he was
only 10 minutes away at a freinds house we told him what happened an
he access to a truck ramps an tie downs he picked up bike an took to
my girl freinds mom's house a 1/2 hour away. so she took me home on
her bike don't like sitting on back at all so in the future will be
getting a master link as a spare i did pick up the chain just thought
i would share this

A rivet style master link will usually eliminate that problem.

another stupid engine sound question

I suggest checking your muffler mounts bolts all the way around
starting at the head, behind the rear master cylinder reservior, and
up under the rear rack.
