Fellow listers, I threw a couple pics of my A-18 in the photo sction under KNEVLKLR. After 50+ mods, I can't help but be proud of the little bugger- it is a KLR afterall. Cheers. Ryan KNEVLKLR A-18 NYC

Interesting. I'm new to KLR's but I did notice some of the changes. I'm curious about the brakes. Did you change the calipers or just paint them? And it looks like you changed the turn signals too. Obviously the tires are different and you added the racks and it looks like a windshield. But the brakes and signals caught my eye so I had to ask about them. Jon... A19 Oregon

After several good recommendations from people on this list, I've ordered a Wolfman Explorer tankbag from Motorace.com for $107 US. This seems a pretty decent price and it's hard to beat several positive reviews (I hope). It should arrive here for at least $75 Cdn. cheaper than I can buy it locally. Steve BC Canada

Jon, the calipers are stock, I just painted them when I was bored one day. However, I did make some actual changes to the brake system that made a big difference. In my opinion, if I were going to only upgrade one thing on the KLR, it would be the brakes- they're fine for off road but I feel they are a little under-powered for street use. I threw a 320 mm rotor from cyclebrakes.com (stock is 260mm I think), added steel braided brake lines front and rear, and added gafler green pads up front. There's a huge difference. If you were to do just one of these upgrades, probably the easiest and most bang for your buck would be to upgrade the brake lines to braided steel. It will give a lot better lever feel and control. That of course is my opinion and subject to debate. I changed out the turn signals because I thought the stockers were an eye sore and I wanted a shorter stalk that was less likely to break of upon crashing -which I frequently do when off road. 3 or four sets later, it appears the short signals are just as easy to break off but at least they look better. I got them straight from lockhart phillips part #'s 122-9816 (front) and 122-9985 (rear) if you want straight replacements. After going through a few pairs, I decided to convert the signals into combination running lamps/turn signals for increase visability. Easy job, just have tie in a new power feed from the light harness and order part numbers #122-9984 (F) and 122-9908 (R). I even went so far as to wire a kill switch to shut off the running lights to conserve power off road (I tend to stress the battery by repeated crashing and restarting) The turn signals are only $17-20 a pair. cheers Ryan KNEVLKLR
