Howdy,
I just picked up an SV650 this weekend and looked into joining a
Yahoo! site for this bike. I thought there would be some pretty
active groups 'cause I thought this was a reletive popular bike.
Unfortunately, nothing comes close to this great group!
Any member out there even own/currently own an SV and have a good
site to recommend?
Bonsall Baron
P.S. Fiance wants to know why I need two bikes? Can someone please
list "top 10 reasons to own two/or more bikes" so I can make
a better retort than "I could be out womanizing or drinking
instead. Wouldn't you rather I had this as a hobby????"

It may not come close to this group, but svrider.com is an
outstanding board. If you're in or around souther California
socalsvriders.org is also a good forum.
I own a 2002 naked SV650. I think you'll find it an outstanding all-
around street bike and a great value, much like the KLR is a great
value and an outsatanding dual-sport.
Can't help you with your woman. However, the fact that she even
raised the question is a real red flag. If she questions you about a
second bike, think what may come next: "Do you really need those new
hard cases?", "Why are you wasting money on serrated pegs?", "Does
that doohickey REALLY need replacing?". Where is it all going to
stop? Think of the implications. My only advice is to nip this in
the bud, and QUICK.

Probably as many messages per day as this KLR list. Less talk about bikes
than this list, and certainly less *informed* talk about bikes than this
list: lots of n00b questions, and long non-moto threads. It's probably the
best SV list, though.

Sorry... I don't have 10 reasons. In my case, I pointed out to my wife that
_she_ had 4 wheels, and I just wanted parity.

I have 2, a KLR and an Intruder LC1500. Both very different types of
bikes. The most I've ever had at one time was 3 bikes, 1 sidecar.
No reason to explain it logically to her. Ask her why she has all
those shoes, when she can only wear one pair at a time. Or, why
doesn't she finish 1 bottle of nail polish before she buys another.
I suggest when you say these things that you stand way back out
reach, by the way.

I have 7 bikes. I want more. Same issues @ home. I'm watching this
thread very carefully to see what I can learn.
(I have a friend with 50 bikes. I'll have to ask him how he gets away
with it, although he was divorced once already)

You might explain that motorcycles tend to be highly optimized for a
particular type of use and that it is unsafe to use the wrong motorcycle
under the wrong conditions. The KLR is a bit of an exception to this
rule but you don't have to mention that. You can also state that you can
get a variety of motorcycles (especially used) for much less than the
cost of a low end sports car. That worked for me.
