Does the tube sit above or below the ends of the U-bolt? Did you shorten
the U-bolt any? Does the U-bolt contact the tube? Does it wear holes in
 the tube?

Not so far. I have about 3,000 miles of mostly street riding on my PVC tool holder.

i cut the ubolt ends off a couple mm past the bolts. if i recall
correctly, it sits just below the bolts. they wear into the plastic a
bit, but they're short enough that they don't punch through, at least
not in 5000 miles or so of mixed road/dirt. i used 4" abs. it is not
too hard to bang this into rocks, so i only use it for loaded trips
(like to moab, or lapaz), not everyday riding. in between, it sits on
 a shelf.

I too have the PVC tool carrier mounted to Tim's highway pegs. Gravel blast
is beginning to wear the tube at the center, but a simple overlay should
 avoid wearing through.

I have use a PVC Tool Tube for about 3 or 4 years. Great place to keep
tools and spare parts. I have seen fancy ways to mount the tube, but have
found a simple solution that works great.

 1. Used a 4" at first but the front tire would hit it on full compression
of the forks. Switched to the 3" pipe and it has been perfect.

 3. Went to to A/C section at Home Depot and bought 4 large metal hose
clamps. I have the alum. bash plate and highway pegs. Go throught the bash
plate & highway pegs with the two inside hose clamps and around the the
highway pegs with the two outside hose clamps. They will not move or come
off if you do it properly.

I ride my KLR extremely hard. I go through deepwater, over logs and if the
trail is blocked by large trees I blaze a trail around them. Even with
typle of riding if you install it properly you will not have to worry about
 it moving or coming off.

My worry when mounting my tool tube/road bar was the popular method
 of using hose clamps.
I couldn't stand the thought of one snapping on me while putting all
my weight forward while cruising 80 in a stoop down the slab.
I decided to use stainless Ubolts instead, and can stand up on my
 tool tube with out worry.
It has proved durable enough to with stand my Dumass Lowsides too!
 Rod,,,with a 2inch tool tube for long stuff and a 3incher mounted
under it for spare tube and dishwashin premix for slickum.

				Hey Tom!
 Let's see if this works.
 Here ya go.
You'll have to weed through some of the S.E. Oklahoma adventure
 photos though.

Worked like a champ Rod, thanks. I have an extra bracket in about the same
location - I believe it use to be the Ca emissions charcoal canister

 .
I may try the PVC tube there. I like the backrest on your bike - I presume
 you made this yourself?
