				Need some opinions.

I've come across a 1989 KLR250 with less the 11K miles on it. The guy is
asking $1500. Is this a good deal, or would I be taked for a ride?

The bike appears to be in good shape, not beat up at all. Says it has been
setting in a wharehouse all this time(?)

 Whatcha ya'll think?

Kelley, the only source for a service manual for the KLR 250 that I know
of is the one from Kawasaki. If you plan to keep your bike for awhile, I
would invest in it. Valve adjustment is very simple with the screw type
adjusters, get the manual and go for it. Anthony

Does anyone know a good source for a service
 manual for the KLR 250 (Mine's a 96 model). I
also need to know the specs for a valve
adjustment and if the shims are the same as the
 650. Kelley.

Does the KLR 250 have a doohickey? What engine problems if any?

If the doohickey is the balancer, the KLR250 does have a balancer. It uses
 two balancer shafts with counterweights.I don't see a tensioner-just a
guide. The chain looks to be pretty short. So far I can't find any info on
 adjusting it.
I've had two engine problems with mine:first,at 1350 miles,a piece of
gasket sealer from the factory assembly, broke loose and plugged the oil
supply line to the top end.The engine started knocking severely. It destroyed
the cylinder head(since the Japanese insist on running the camshafts on the
bare cylinder head with no replaceable bearings),both camshafts, both rocker
arms, the camchain and tensioner. It was all repaired under warranty-but the
bike was layed up for about 5-6 weeks. This,of course, was a bit of a freak
occurance and could have happened to any brand or make of motorcycle. The
second problem was an oil leak that developed from the waterpump seal. There
is a seal that seals the waterpump shaft. If oil leaks from there, you will
notice a leak at a little weap hole under the right-front of the engine. You
can see this little hole easily. The side cover and water pump must be removed
to replace this. This, also, was repaired under warranty. The bike is running
great now at 4500 miles. But this is the most warranty problems I have ever
had with any motorcycle out of the 16 I have owned.I really like the KLR250
though-I think its a great compromise between a lighter weight machine, and
 one that is still streetable.

				Hi all,

My brother just picked up a '91 KLR250 that is in very good condition
other than a blown rear shock (no damping at all). I glanced at the
shock, and I fear that it may be non-rebuildable... Can anyone
 confirm that it is/isn't?

Anyone have a good KLR250 rear shock for sale? I see that another
poster asked whether the 650 shock could be swapped to the 250, but I
 didn't see a reply...

 thanks!

I have the a16 klr650 - my second one, but last year my brother
decided to get back into the off road seen and bought the klr 250. I
have to say that when we are in the woods, (we own hunting land)
the 250 is an absolute joy. If I am there with the big bike I feel
like I have to be on my game, but if we happen to switch. god the
250 is a care free joy in the woods.

of course, when we have to go anywhere on the highway, I think my
brother regrets the decision. Woods riding albeit dear to our
hearts , comprises a small percentage of actual ride time. When we
crank up and head down the highway the 250 is kinda crappy, if your
patient it will get there. With the 650, you can pick the time of
 arrival.

Does anyone know if there are any major differences between the 2003 and the
2004 KLR250 model, besides color? I want to buy a 250 and there are 2003
 models available in my area.

 Thanks

 Kurt

None. A good way of telling if there have been major changes is by
looking at Kawasaki's version, i.e. KLR650-A5 or KLR250-D17 (or whatever
it's up to now). If the alpha character is still the same as last years
or 17 years ago, then no major changes have been made.

				Anyone consider one of these?

Would it be better offroad than the KLR650?

Any thoughts of 250 vs. 650 would be appreciated.

Does the 250 suffer the same affliction in the doohickey as the 650?
 Just wanted to know.
