Anyone use a kermit chair. I'm looking for a good travel chair for camping and the BMW guys rave about this chair. I'm tend to be leery of anything the beemer guys tout. I'm sure it's a great chair, but I never joined the "cool at any price" fraternity. On the other hand, I'm all for paying the cost for a truly quality product if there is nothing comparable for less. Just wondering into which category this chair falls in the opinions of those who might have used it. Randy

Yup, have one, and carry/use it a lot when I know there won't be any other sitting arrangements around. I've had mine for about 5 years and purchased it from Kermit hisself, well, actually his wife. She was doing dishes when I placed my order. $76, but it is extremely comfortable, packs up relatively small, easy to set up, and an absolute work of art. Pricey, yes, and since the original manuf. sold the business, the new owner have jumped to price to around $127. Even at $76, it was expensive, but it was something I wanted, so I bought it. If Concours riders are frugal, I'm tighter'n a ....never mind. Uh, Kermit chairs. I have a pair of them for the wife and myself- well built, comfortable (try that one with a Wal Mart chair). I personally think they are worth the money and I ride with the notoriously cheap Moto Guzzi crowd. I noticed the chairs were now available from aerostich, as well. Jason

Randy - do to my BMW heritage I have several Kermit chairs (a tall and a short). I love them for comfort, strength and design. I hate them for design. You cannot beat them for compactness which, if they will be on the bike, is a key factor. Since most of my camping now is out of the camping trailer I hate having to spend the time to put them together and take them apart while everyone else pulls out their 12$ chair and is already sitting. Once they are together, however, they are really nice (except for my 9 month pregnant wife who is not real fond of the short (standard) size right now). -Scott

This is not a Kermit but check this out, you can buy 12 of them for the same price and it packs very small. Sits low to the ground to reduce ground impact and fire ring diving from a sudden loss of consciousness. I'm a fan of the Kermit chair, but then, I've been riding BMWs for 32 years. When they were going for 60 bucks, I thought that was way too much for a glorified lawn chair. By the time they got to 85 bucks I had spent enough rally evenings in them that my clubbies agreed that it was about time to have my own. If your rally style encompasses sitting by the fire with a rally mug full of store ice and Overholt in one hand, and a cigar in the other, there is no finer rally perch. The Kermit's comfort and low profile allow you to maintain your posture, without spilling, long after consciousness has departed and everyonre else has gone to bed. Now that the price is somewhere in the region of $130, I'm a little lukewarm again. If you are a guy who just can't sit still, always has to be tending the fire or something, the Kermit may not be for you, as once you are settled, you tend to want to stay there.. If you are trailering a bunch of bikes to a recreation site, you will probably have room for all the $5.99 folding lawn chairs you will need, so the price is hard to justify. But if you want a durable, comfortable, well-made chair that breaks down into a bad about 4" by 22" or so, and slides right into your seal bag along with the tent, sleeping bag and Thermarest, then I'd say that you should splurge sometime, give yourself a treat.

At a svelte 245, I've broken a couple of those, along with several of the $9.95 version from Target. I got one as a schnorr for applying for a credit card, though, that seems to be pretty durable.

The $25 a pair deal that tiresunlimited made me on Monday and I announced to the group arrived here yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). The Continental Enduro Pro CC160's are the correct size, and look like pretty decent tires, although obviously more street than I prefer. Actually, I was only charged $24.60 for the pair, so not a bad deal. Thankfully, I also ordered a new set of tkc80's at the same time, so I'll prolly just save the cc160's for later. Hopefully the rest of you that ordered will have the same luck. I'd be interested to hear how the tires perform.
