To those of you who have interest..
J rgen Schwendemann from Germany e-mailed me some photos of his
KLR with a sidecar attached. It is all custom made and fixed to a
1989 KLR650.
There are 8 pictures here:
http://www.klr650.net/archives/sidecar/
A sidecar is not appealing to me, but to each his own.

Pick up a Clymer manual and go at it. I just got through doing the
same thing and it's not very difficult. Get some ZIP Lock bags for
small parts, a can of carb cleaner and I used a can of compressed
'computer' air (no air compressor) to blow out jets and orifices.
Wear some safety glasses when squirting anything in the carb -
sometimes you get some blow back and you don't want to get carb
cleaner or gas in your eyes!
The only tricky part is the diaphragm - but be patient (it took me a
few times to get mine back in correctly) and you'll be fine.
And of course if you run into problems post to the list.
Oh yeah - is there a fuel filter on the bike?

Yeah, I know, I don't want to sell it, but this Texas heat is
killing me with full riding gear, and I won't ride without it. I
have this '03 model, great shape with new D-604's, Kawasaki high
windshield, tank bag, soft saddlebags, JC Whitney trunk, custom
built guards for the bags, throttle lock, just a nice bike with a
couple small scratches. Not beat to death, I used this mostly on
the street and highways, back and forth to work. 5900 miles, with 3
oil changes and dealer service. I have a clear Oregon title, but
the bike is currently in Texas City, TX, about 45 miles South of
Houston.
Looking to get around $3800, but will be reasonable, or I'll trade
up for a nice Jeep Wrangler. E-mail me off list if interested, I
can send pics of anything you might want to see.

Recently mounted the said Kenda K270's.
50/50 tire would be fair, these tires have slowed my street riding
down alot, they flex pretty fairly in corners, rear end can break out
upon moderate braking, feedback feels as if they do not like to lean
much, with the Ultra Heavy/HD tubes the gyro effect pushes the bike
back upright.
But for my riding they work good sofar, offroad grip is amazing for a
tire thats legal on the road, if the going gets really muddy air them
down to about 20~22 psi, normally just run them about 26~28 psi and
leave them there.

My A15 recently would not run at idle without the choke, would backfire on
decel like CA Stu around a campfire. I checked for vacuum leaks and fuel
blockages. I finally disassembled the air cutoff valve on the carb, checked
the diaphragm and blew compressed air (lightly) into the tiny orifices. Not
seeing anything obviously wrong, I bolted Grasshopper back together and
viola, it ran fine.
Maybe this could be your problem.

Hello, I'd noticed recently increased vibration in my hands while
riding my A12. After checking the usual suspects it turns out that
the mounts at the very end of the bars for the acerbis (rally pro I
think) guards took a bit of tightening up, even though they felt
quite secure.I'm convinced that vibe level is down. So if you have
the renthal/acerbis combo and vibes seem to be increasing, check
those fasteners, especially the end plug doodads......cosmo

What riding gear do you have? Have you tried the new mesh riding gear?
And when it gets really hot, you should take a look at an evaporative
solution (like the Joe Rocket Phoenix liner, or Aerostitch evapodanna).
Selling your bike because you might have the wrong riding gear isn't the

This is sort of a 'me too' post. The best price I found was Southwest Moto
after you factor in the shipping other places charge. They are in nowhere,
NM, too, but I got fast delivery to Montana.

Just put a set of D606's on my DR last week, and yesterday was the first
real
test. I don't think you will like them for the highway. They seem to turn
in
fast, and have the additional noise and vibration from aggressive knobbies.
Rocky, heavily rutted and washboarded FS roads are entertaining, too. I was
real tired coming off a mountain in the dark last night and I wasn't the
happiest person in the world with the little weaves and bobbles as the front
knobs deflected off stuff. Just seemed a little more pronounced than other
tires I've run. I may wind up with something less aggressive on the front.

I can't vouch for the crash performance since it's never been "crash
tested" but I bought my wife an HJC SY-MAX and she likes it a lot.
To my knowledge SNELL does not approve any flip up helmet but think
about it, anything in front of your face is better than nothing.
Rhumor has it that the SY-MAX will get SNELL approval next year.

They are supposed to be the best but I cannot find them....
It's All In The Tires
Our personal dual sport is a Kawasaki KLR650, which has been
extensively modified into a racy "super motard" and rides on Dunlop
D604s. These Dunlops are H-rated for 130 mph, and while they'll take
you safely down a fire trail, they're better at embarrassing
overpowered sportbikes on a twisty paved road. Our Dunlop-shod KLR
corners at unbelievable lean angles without dragging anything but
your knee (optional). The point is that these 650 dual sports are so
versatile and free of vices, you can easily tailor one to your
personal style. It's all in the tires.--R.T.

thanks to those of you who replied. yesterday a buddy and Jake
helped me do the carb kit upgrade on my A17, I didnt notice much of a
difference in performance (could be the way i ride tho), but i did
notice a cooler running temp. This will help me with the A14 Choke
only running probs as i now know what the insides of this carb look
like and it dont seem to be tooo difficult.
i suppose i better do the carb kit on the A14 while i have it apart.
and no JIM it doesnt have a filter installed and yes it has been
sitting a while.. i can figure that because it is a 2000 with only
669 miles on it..
i have seen these carbs on e-bay for between 5 and 25$ and never gave
it a second thought!.. maybe i should buy on just to have it handy in
case mine falls off or something:\
thanks again for the info.. once i get this sucker appart and get
lost as to what to do next you will definitely be hearing from me
again on this subject.

I always drive and ride with some antihistamine tablets (like for
hayhever etc) with me. I've had some bad reactions and a bee sting
can be fatal if you go into shock from an allergic reaction. One of
my dogs went into shock after a rattler bite last year. I wonder if
antihistamines are a valid thing to take for a snake bite? The vet
told us allergic reactions to the venom are more trouble than the
venom itself. Any more expert medical opinions are welcomed !

First guess is a blocked pilot jet, and maybe more. With that kind of
mileage,
the bike has spent a lot of time sitting, leaving plenty of time for varnish
to
form.
Before you take the carb apart, try a can of Seafoam in the gas. let the
bike
run for a while and see if it improves.
If that doesn't do it, fill the float bowl with gas, drain off some of it,
and pour in
a little Yamaha carb cleaner (recommended mix is 3parts gas to 1 part carb
cleaner, to give you an idea how much gas to drain out.) Use a small funnel
to
pour it down the fuel line. Let it sit overnight. Did wonders for my
gummed-up
XL600R.
If you still have to get into the carb, find the CVK40 page (find the link
in the
FAQ) before you start.

really. Still had to take my glasses off to put it on or take it off.
Then the padding really put the glasses at an adnormal posistion.
Second was the cutout's for speakers in the ear pads. They had some
little foam w/velcro to stop up the hold if you didn't use speakers.
I never could get these adjusted in about 3000 miles of riding to get
it where it didn't bother my ears after an hour or so.
Why I HAD one? Well, I was kinda not happy with my sore ears up there
coming into Wyoming I think, starting on a trip from Louisiana to
Washington State and put the helment on the rear view mirrow, bumped
it, it fell off right on the left side of the visor, broke it all to
heck. Duck taped it till I got to the first store , little yamaha
place in a small town. They just happen to have a full face HJC for
179 out the door. Yes yes yes. You should of seen the look in her
eyes when I told her ya'll can have that hat, throw it away, put a
new shield on it and keep it, what ever. Me and it or finished.
The new hat was more comfy, fitted the glassed better, quiter, and
was broke in where it didn't bother me after 3 days on the road.
