Curious if anyone else's KLR 'knocks' - mine has a quite noticable knock during take-off - most notable under 3k RPM in first or second gear, or if I lug it at low RPM's. It doesn't knock in neutral while revving it - has to be in gear and moving. Done the doohickey, and the bike runs strong, doesn't burn oil, etc so I'm not worried too much, just wondering what it could be. I've been thinking of tearing into the doohickey again to check the spring, at the time I did mine the shorter springs weren't available. -- Jim - Riding the backroads of central NC ----------------------------------------- KLR650 - A12 - "Gonzo"

Have long ago did you adjusted your valves? Sounds like the symptoms I had that went away after adjusting the valves. My intake clearances were tight. --Jim A-15

My guess is you are hearing the decompression mechanism at work. This mechanism gives you a noisy sound at low rpm when you lug the enginer, and as RPM goes up a little the noise goes away. The mechanism allows for easy turning over of the engine at starting, remember in 95 and earlier you could get a kick starter kit. At that time this feature was pretty important. Heading up PCH. Making it a 4-day weekend. Taking my NKLR, not my KLR. Wanna ride? RM
