Hi everyone! About a month ago I bought a blue and white A6. I've been
going through the bike checking everything. Yesterday I was going through
the carb and noticed that it has a 40 pilot, a 150 main, and an adjustable
needle. Can anyone tell me what is the stock jetting on this bike? There
was a dynojet sticker on the sidecover so maybe that explains the needle.
The second line out of the fuel tank to the carb has been capped off. Is
this just a tank vent or is it vacum line for reserve or something? Also,
the turn signals were cut and wired back together. Anyone know where I can
get the original style small bullet conectors?
Thanks,
Dean

The stock main jet size is 148 and there is no adjustable needle.
The pilot jet stock size is 40. I have a 152 main on mine and I had
a KLX650R adjustable needle set to the second position. I was
averaging 40 mpg. I took the KLX needle off and put the stock back
on. I shimmed it with a 3/1000 " washer. I haven't gone thru a full
tank yet and already I am past where it was hitting reserve. I
haven't noticed any difference in performance either.

Can someone please tell me what the stock jetting - pilot, and main on the
KLR 650.
Has anyone attempted to get the jetting they need on the cheap by drilling
the jets using 'hair or jet drills'? I have done this a number of times on
the old H-D Keihin butterfly and S&S carbs with acceptable results.
Can't quite figure a few things out - and again it may be altitude and
temperature working for me. I have done the 'L' shaped cut in the airbox,
and removed the backfire screen and done the idle jet adjustment but no
jetting as yet. The bike starts much better but I don't get any surging and
the coolant temp stays at or below the mid point.
Still - I know I should go up on the jetting but would like to know what the
stock sizes are so I can go from there. I also wonder if the previous owner
may have gone with a size or two up in the main.
Thanks

2- Jackass comments like "spell check anyone?" are as much a part of
this list as the free and excellent advice. If they weren't it wouldn't
be fun and all the long-time members (the ones giving us the excellent
free advice) would have left already. Lighten up.
Stock jetting is-
1- pilot screw- set different on each bike, usually from 3/4 turn to 1
1/4 turn depending.
2- Stock non-adjustable needle with no washers underneath, and the thick
head of the needle needs no spacer.
3- Keihin 148 main jet.
If you have a Dynojet kit installed, a Dynojet#136 main jet, the needle
on the 2nd clip from the top, and the pilot screw 2 turns out, might be
a good place to start.

lost my first master link clip on saturday.....

I used to loose them all the time on my previous ride.
I got good advice that works surprisingly well.
After the clip goes on, clean-up the clip/side-plate
area really well and put a layer of silicone caulk or
gasket over the entire clip. Works great. Once I got
cocky and intentionally skipped the silicone and the
clip was gone in a day.
