need help, which torque wrench

I'm up here in the middle of nowhere, Alaska. I plan on doing my own
Maintenance on my A18 and am still waiting for the Maintenance
Manual I asked for when I bought my Bike. Btw I bought it May
10,2004 from Cyclebarn in Lynnwood WA, and they still haven't gotten
it in yet. Anyway, so far I've seen post for Torque in Inch pounds
and the 2 Torque wrenches I've got for work measure 10-80ftlbs & 50-
250ftlbs.
Gensets I work on are big, so I have alot of big tools. now I need
to get a Metric Set of 1/4" (so tiny) & 3/8" drive Scokets & Metric
Wrenches. My 2 other Torque wrenches are 1/2" drive and made by
Proto, I plan on the 3rd one being a Proto and was wondering what
range I should get. I was looking at the 25-200inch lb, figure that
the 200-1000in lb would be to much. Need help on what I should get.

The 20-200 is the one to get.
Also get yourself a nice set of socket drive metric hex-keys, very
handy with the KLR. They aren't usually in a standard kit.
All my wrenches consist of are a Husky set from Home Depot, I'm still
missing the torque wrench.
The hex keys get a TON of use.

My SK's inch-pound torque range is 25-250, and that has worked out
well for me. 200-1000 inch pounds would too closely duplicate your
10-80 foot pound wrench in my opinion. Since you want to avoid using
wrenches at the extreme limits of their rated capacity, where they
tend to be less accurate, I try to overlap mine some, but not by more
than 30% or so, unless I need a different drive size.
I too really like the Proto brand. All my 3/4 and one inch sockets
and wrenches are Proto. I have a 3/4 ratchet that weighs about 9
pounds and a one inch breaker bar that has never failed its
objective. The large-size Proto impact sockets I use with them are
so meaty I have no fear of breaking them on tough jobs. But then,
sprocket nuts are probably the toughest things I have to tackle.

You can't beat the simplicity & durability of "beam" type torque
wrenches. For 98% of KLR650 work, a 3/8" beam torque wrench is
perfect. Keep a 3/8"F to " adapter for the fine torque work such as
valve covers bolts. A " torque wrench will handle the few heavy
bolts on a KLR.
A beam type wrench forces you watch what you're doing, which is
extremely important on a motorcycle. You are much less likely to
strip a threaded hole if you're watching the beam deflection rather
than trusting the setting on a clicker type torque wrench.

GAWD!!! Don't you people ever read the FAQ? Washing a KLR will get
you banned if you get caught!
