blend? I've been using Rotella T 15W-40 Heavy Duty Dino ($7/gallon) @ wallyworld the last 7000 miles. No clutch slippage, 55mpg on highway, miniscual drop in sight glass between 2000 mile changes. The zinc & phosphorous numbers are higher than any oil I've seen. There are no friction modifiers in this oil. I have a gallon of Rotella T 5W-40 heavy duty synthetic (no fricion modifiers) on deck for next change (12.88/gallon and same high zinc and phosphorous numbers). Kevin A17> oil? in the oil that is at issue.
I prefer the JASO MA synthetics after break-in, but then again, I may have
made the mistake of reading about the SH oils, and such. (Harhar)

Joking - My KLR is in better shape than I am, but maybe, just maybe, my
&*#$(@#) ankle will be cleared to ride in short order.
In the mean time, I will follow the science and use JASO MA synthetic oil
for our wet-clutch shared-oil ride.

Nobody disputes that you are acting on very sound theory. The question is, will it make any difference over the expected life of the bike? The "average" rider changing the oil at the recommended intervals, will that shorten the life of the engine? I've ran delvac 1300 in my '04 since I got it in oct '03. The oil would usually turn pretty black after 1K miles. Last change at 3500 miles I put Mobil 1 red cap in it. Now the oil has over 2K on it and it's barely darkened at all. Does this prove that synth is better than dino? If you're going to Wal-Mart to pick up the oil, just buy the big gallon bottle of Rotella or Delvac or Delo 15W-40 instead. These oils are well suited to use in your bike and are much higher quality than generic car oil (or most name-brand car oil, actually). And they're *cheap*.
