Just bought a used KLR. It needs a new chain. Could someone advise
on what to buy and where? A 520 106 links, right?
Any other related advice is welcome.
Thanks

With all the talk of chains I figure it is a good time to get the info I will need when my time comes (at about 8000 miles now, so plenty of time). I was checking the above site to figure out if they would charge me tax and/or shipping and when I put this chain in the "cart" they added "Mini Chain Press Tool for 520 chain" for $19.99. This would seem to be a good price. Anybody know if this one works well enough or if I should get that ~$30 one from that other site recently mentioned? -- Doug Herr doug@...> I think this outfit has a decent price and good service: > > http://rockymountainatv.com/wc.dll?wwrmatv~type_name~0003981760~CH~CHAIN~DID+520+X%2DRING+Chain~~~ > > You'll need a 520 106 link, and it comes w/ a master link.
That tool worked fine for me on clip-type master links. Does anyone here use a non-O/X-ring chain on their KLR? I'm considering trying an RK heavy-duty non-O-ring chain.> I was checking the above site to figure out if they would charge > me tax and/or shipping and when I put this chain in the "cart" > they added "Mini Chain Press Tool for 520 chain" for $19.99. > This would seem to be a good price. One thing I'd suggest is upgrading to a progressive front spring first. With the stock spring, the KLR will dive for the ground with the stock brakes resulting in an awe-inspiring nose-down attitude guaranteed to make you an eunoch as your passenger slides forward and rams your family jewels into the gas tank (EEeeoow!). I'd hate to see what would happen with a 320mm rotor too. -E> The 320mm rotor upgrade works more than AOK, and is easier to modulate than > the stock disk.
