Well, how about this? Three times in the past 6 months and at least 3 times a year for the 6 years that I have owned my '91 KLR I have ridden it to Southern Baja (1000 miles each way) and then put 500 or so miles on it while down there. No mechanical failures on any of those trips except for the rear stock shock spewing its fluid. Otherwise its been 3 flat tires and nothing more. I did have a balancer system failure in '99 but nothing after that repair and rebuild. In addition to the Mexico trips I average about 8,000 miles/year in California. Ouch!! No need to get nasty. KLR riders are typically chronic tinkers who love working on their bikes. Since this bike is so simple & rugged it lends itself to home repair & modifications. All motorcycles, cars, machines in general have "opportunities" for improvements. Since we KLR riders like working on our bikes, we also like to discuss what we're doing & look for good ideas that other folks are doing. No they're definitely not crab, the KLR is a foundation for rugged, unique, all-purpose motorcycles. The US military chose the KLR650, above all others, to be the basis for their motorcycle and like the typical KLR owner, they immediately tinkered with it. No, I bought mine just to have something to maintain, it's been a dream come true. My only complaint is that nothing ever breaks on it, I should have just bought a Harley instead. It would have kept me busier and the constant stench of old beer on my breath would fit the bike's image more effectively too. It's nice out today, I think I'll put on some flip-flops and go ride to a bar.

You MUST know that I wrote that tongue-in-cheek. Go to Google and search for "klr650." The website that has been the first hit for well over 1 year is my "Mark's KLR650 Website." You can't believe that I, the owner of that website, think that the KLR is anything other than the best two-wheeled conveyance out there! The guy was obviously trolling, so why entertain him by mounting a vigorous defense. There are two groups of people out there; those who know that the KLR is the best bike going, and those who haven't ridden one yet. I can't imagine someone riding one and not falling in love with it.
