It is funny someone should bring up non-gps navigation, because I was just thinking about GPS. My method to date has been available maps and an old Boy Scout compass tied to my tank bag. The problem I have been experiencing here in central Texas is the lack of high ground landmarks. It can be very difficult to navigate in this areas back country roads. So, I was thinking about a GPS, but I really don't know much of anything about them. So, I am curious. Does the GPS unit allow you to basically do a "start" function when you leave home, and then record the route you take? Meanwhile, can you compare your route against public route knowledge to identify the closest gas, or town? Many times I have found a nice picnic spot, odd trail, beautiful scenery, or the hidden BBQ spot with the awesome sandwiches, only to find it extremely difficult to find my way back there. Unless I carry a notepad and record directions at every turn. Too boring. So can you GPS guys share some usage methods and possibly some models that offer this or that and how you found them to be beneficial to your ride strategy. Thanks. Jim Smithville - Texas
