hard luggage

Just bought my fourth bike in last eight years and guess what it is -
brand new 01 KLR650. Tried to search the messages for tips on hard
luggage available in Canada, not much luck. Could anybody help me?

You, my friend, have tons of choices for hard luggage. Givi,
Pelican, happy Trails aluminum boxes, Touratech aluminum boxes, Jesse
panniers, even Hepco Becker... the hard part is deciding which you
want.

hard luggage

KLRers,
I don't have any off road experience using hard luggage but I'm sure
curious as to what happens to your body parts if you go down and get
maybe a leg between the luggage and a hard spot.
My on road experience with hard luggage makes me think it's a good thing
as it may help keep the bike off body pars in an accident. Like while
sliding along on the road.
I bought the Wolfman Alpha system for my upcoming Great Divide Ride and
think it will do a lot less damage to me when I drop the bike or have
similar exciting problems.

I'm with you Jeff----offroading with my KLR or DRZ440S I prefer
the soft luggage as I don't want it catching my leg while paddling
across a creek or thru a mud hole. But I prefer it on my 1150GS--but
don't use it as an offroad bike.

IMO, hard bags and off-road riding are a poor fit. I have banged a
leg on my E21s, mounted up pretty high, and would not relish the
prospect of catching a toe on the ground with the corner of a
Jesse bag up against my calf. Besides, scraping a plastic bag
on the rocks plays hell with the finish.

hard luggage

Back in 1997, I rode the Reno 200 with Givi bags on my BMW GS. I
stopped counting how many times I dropped the bike after the 8th or
9th or 10th time. The hoops were a little tweaked, but nothing that
required more than a good tug to straighten out. As for my body
parts, it was never an issue. In numerous cases, the luggage
actually prevented my legs from getting squashed under the weight of
the bike. But that was the GS. I take my KLR places that I would
not have taken the GS. I'm still undecided on hard luggage for the
KLR.

Yea, I guess so. They are suppose to blend in with our ears, so that
no one can tell that we're wearing them, and call us NERDS! Either
that, or it's so that us fast and warm guys can keep all the good
secrets to ourselves. Don't want to have TOO much competition ya
know.
