Hi All, Has anyone compared the Supertrapp EAR, Supertrapp IDS2 Quiet, Cobra ISDE, Big Gun, etc. for horsepower increases and relative noise? Does the EAR allow the engine to make more HP than the IDS2? Does a muffler listed for a KLX fit a KLR? I look forward to hearing from you. Jim

With all the horror stories I hear about various exhaust systems: Supercrap, Cobra, etc. Sounds to me like the stock system the KLR comes with is A-OK. comments??

Have had a supertrapp IDSII on since the 500mile mark (about March of 2001) on a 2001KLR-650. Now at 4900 miles with absolutely no problems.

I blew through two Crapbras (ISDE models). They SUCK! Don't buy them, as soon as you repack them, they aren't long for the otherside. The problem with them is they have a steel core (which comes unpacked, so you only have one shot at doing it right) inserted into an aluminum can. As you heat and cool the exhaust the two metals expand and contract at different rates and eventually you can't get the core out of the can without damage one or both of them in the process. If you do get it out, you can't get it back in. After that it, all the parts will not mate right and you'll begin to backfire like a madman. The stock exhaust (tweety excepted) is great. My bike has been rejetted and when I ditched the Crapbra for the stocker, I noticed no loss of power, no change in mixture and much much better sound. I just finished my $25 car muffler project, but I haven't had time to mount it (bailing wire and zip ties). Mechanically baffled, 3.5" round, with 1-3/4" inlet and outlets, should breath well. More later. YMMV. ------------------ Zack Banana Republic of Washington, DC KLR650A5 "Buster" | KLR650A2 | ZG1000A1 | KZ440A2 | KX125G1 | 1966 Vespa 125 COG #4664

My Trapp is OK, but if I could do it all over again, I'd stay stock. Mark B2 (Trapp, no big power improvement, but cool sound) A2 (stock exh, no tweet) A3 (stock exh, no tweet)

Here's my two cents : Most of the aftermarket stuff looks good and sounds great. Unfortunately most of it seems to made of crap. Many reports of 'failures' on this list. On the other hand the stock exhaust seems to be virtually indestructable, which is wonderful if you like your bike to sound like a sewing machine or a large bird ( The Dreaded Tweety!). Cheers, Steve A11 ( used to be loud, now sounds like a Singer)

I understand there's some significant weight savings with the aftermarket exhausts - What say ye ole grizzled vets? Seems like saving weight up high would be useful. I bought a Supertrapp with my KLR and I have yet to install it. The stock = exhaust hasn't started tweeting yet and sounds great -- not too loud for the= neighbors, not too quiet for me. When the Supercrapp wears out I'll probab= ly put the stocker back on and f'geytabouddit. Gerret A15 "Mj lnir" (600+ mi)

New to the group, but not to exhaust systems. A fellow Minneapolis KLR rider recently installed a Big Gun. After a thorough rejetting the thing drops me like dead weight. I've just purchased the Trapp IDS2, and with the comments here feel vaguely confident about it. No installation reports or jetting question until my XR250'd broken leg heals completely. Great list!
