i was forked by the dealer!

At a recent KLR event...KLR Kevin came up to me and said: "Wassup with the forks?" I said ..."dunno." Turns out they (the forks) were down. The dealer never adjusted the forks from the shipping position to the riding position. Wow! I got a new bike! Thanks Kevin! don in UTah ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! side cover screw replacement: zip ties?

Post by Edmund Rowe » Sun Oct 12, 2003 11:37 pm

Over the weekend I installed Dual-Star radguard and pumpguard, one each to my A17 KLR 650. Somewhere along the line I boogered up something so the holes in the radiator screen and the left side cover mounting screws don t line up. They re close but I ve heard the cover mounting tabs bust easy so I m hesistant to force them inline. The top screw for the side cover is installed just fine. So is the male end of the whadyacallit plug on the aft lower side of the cover. Looking at the setup I figured two zip ties would replace the two other side cover screws and keep the cover from humming in the breeze. I m pretty new to the home garage work on your own motorcycle so my question: Am I missing something using zip ties on the side cover? Funny side story to the radguard installation: To reach one screw on the upper engine mount it helped to remove the radiator cap. So I get in there with the longest socket wrench extension I have and undo the screw. Back the socket out and I hear an ominous watery plop . oh nooooo With fear and foreboding I realized the screw fell in the radiator. Then in a flash of hope I remembered that very day I grabbed a flexible magnet picker upper at the auto parts store. Our hero grabs the picker upper out of the shopping bag, yanks the plastic cap off the end, dips it into the radiator, and hear a victorious clunk followed by a retraction and there s the screw stuck to the magnet! Yee-haw! On retrospect the screw hadn t fallen far, but the magnet thing sure helped. Edmund [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
