Ask what ever insurance company you get quotes from if they are using your
driving record or Credit Scoring to rank you. I've never had a ticket or
been in an accident in 32 years but because of bad divorce lawyer my credit
rating sucks. The trend nationally is to get states to allow insurance
companies to use credit scoring as far more people have credit problems then
have accidents. In Utah the insurance companies are allowed to use credit
scoring for NEW applications only which means a quote from Progressive shows
the KLR650 at $750 a year and State Farm will not even quote, I am an
insurance risk!.
Utah - KLR650 Full coverage from Farmers is $100 a year(I have two cars and
a house with them, been with them for 23 years).
If your state has allowed the insurance industry to use credit scoring
please contact your 'paid off' politicians and voice your concerns, when I
checked my local House and Senate representivies I found only two that did
not receive 'donation' from the insurance industry, they owned insurance
companies.
While this may not effect you it will have an effect your kids.

The reason I went with full coverage was mostly theft as right now I
don't have enough spare cash kicking around to replace the bike. The
increase from basic to full was something like $250, would take almost
ten years to pay for the cost of the klr for what I got it for. I
figured that parking it daily in a commuter lot, it was worth it.
Once I get enough coin kicking around to replace it if stolen, I may
drop the full coverage.
As far as collision heh, unless I really screw up bad and can't walk
or run away from the scene, any self-induced wreck will be all on me.
I'll never claim my own mistakes on the insurance, the rate increases
will be so insanely high that I wouldn't be able to keep riding if I
made a claim. Same goes with my truck too, I bang it up, I'll never
claim it, I only have the collision because the bank makes me keep it.
