insurance questions

Post by wanderrider » Tue Sep 09, 2003 12:48 pm

Hello all. My KLR is with me finally. Rode it back from Birmingham, last Sunday and Monday.(1000 miles) With an expired license tag. Incident free.(almost) Insurance is still valid (progressive) but only for Alabama state. (260 bucks approx per annum) Any suggestions where I can get a good price for Insurance in NYC? ( I live in New Hyde Park, NY. Across the steet is New Hyde Park, LI. Would it make a difference if I moved to the LI part? Thanks in advance.

Since you have an existing policy with Progressive, why not have them quote you for your new address. They do NYC policies. Full coverage is really brutal for NYC, many places require inspections of your 'locked enclosed facility' for parking before they'll even write a full coverage policy. If you don't need full coverage, don't even bother having them quote it. The increase is so high you could just buy a new KLR every two years instead. I used a Manhattan address on the Progressive site and got a full coverage quote for a new KLR and it was $5300/yr.

Age and driving record have a lot to do with it. I have full coverage on my '01 in Brooklyn, costs $900 a year. Discount for AMA members and MSF class participation. -- Devon Brooklyn, NY A15-Z '01 KLR650 '81 SR500 cafe racer "The truth's not too popular these days....." Well over 26, married, clean record, that was the amusing part. Full coverage down here in Joisey is $721 with bumped up liability, but I haven't put in for the MSF discount, not sure how much that will be. -- ___ ______ _____ __ ________ ___ / _ |< < / == / ___/__ / /_ /_ __/ / __ ____ _ ___ /__ \ / __ |/ // / ****/ (_ / _ \/ __/ / / / _ \/ // / ' \/ _ \ /__/ /_/ |_/_//_/ == \___/\___/\__/ /_/ /_//_/\_,_/_/_/_/ .__/ (_) 8100 miles*Russel Lines*Supertrapp Race* /_/ http://www.panix.com/~cesser/mybike/

This blurb is better written than what I did. 1973 ISDT is going to be rerun for a 30th Reunion, this year! One of the most important vintage events in your lifetime is going to happen Oct 4-6, 2003. YOU have the capability of attending and riding this vintage friendly event. It is the Leroy Winters Memorial 7th Annual ISDT Reunion Ride. Spearheaded by Bob Hicks of period fame and motorcycle publication fame, this event will be the only time YOU will get to relive this important fun time. All you need is a period Husqvarna (or any other brand) and a preregistered form sent in and paid for. For details on how to do this go to www.pathfindersmc.org
