For those of you who have never been to the Myrtle Beach area, I would have
to say it is a dangerous area for motorcycling. As one person has already said,
there is a wide mix of vacationers, teenagers, retired folks, and just stupid
drivers all trying to get to locations to eat, play or whatever. Most of
them are not sure where that location is, so they drive with their head looking
off at the side of the road. I have been there over the years at Harley rallies
and just vacationing myself on my motorcycle and three times I have met
vehicles traveling north in the southbound lane on US 17. (or southbound in the
northbound lane) Mix in the alcohol or what ever else they may have "on board"
and it is not a motorcycle friendly enviroment. Its conveinent to get around
there on a motorcycle, most of the time, but overall I'd say stay away from that
area. Many Hotels/Motels there do not welcome motorycles, and campgrounds DO
NOT allow motorcycles inside the campground unless you push them in. If ya like
standing in line to do about anything, it's the place to go !!! Also at
night, on the main drag along the beach, (Ocean Blvd.), traffic backs up for blocks
and blocks due to the teenagers (young and old) crusing, making it damn near
impossible to get to your hotel.
