This is probably a dumb question, but here it goes - What do y'all use to clean off the bug splats on your face shield. I just got a new helmet and it's bug season here (killing more than my daily bag limit for sure). Thanks for any advice. Hunter A17 00 XT225

My shield gets clean when I wipe out in the grass. Soapy water and Plexus. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Hunter, Jonathan" wrote:

Just a soaking wet paper towel laid flat on the shield and left to sit for a while. No wiping, no scratches or hazing. That must make for some nice, relaxed gas stops.

Plexus spray will work or if you don't find any, simple rubbing alcohol will work also. Don't use windex, it screws up plexiglas. Criswell "Hunter, Jonathan" wrote:

A few options available here. If I'm just cleaning my shield and I'm at home or the shop, I use Motorcycle Stuff Clean and Polish. SPray it on, let it sit for a minute or two and then wipe off. Bugs come off with no problems and it helps keep fogging down too. Safe on all visors. PLexus is also very good stuff but a bit pricey. Still it leaves your shield feeling silky smooth! For cleaning while touring, nothing beats the Wee Willy kit. A spray bottle with a cleaner that will not affect any shield, a very gentle scrubber and a squeegee are also mounted to the spray bottle. Compact, light and easy to use. I sell the kit for $14.95 and the refill kit for $5.95. Gino www.rvmc.com --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Hunter, Jonathan" wrote:

I use; Meguiars #17 Cleaner for small scratches and #10 Polish for everyday cleaning. If it's good enough for aircraft windows then it's good enough for my helmet, and it comes in a handy sized squeeze bottle. http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars1017.html NAPA carries it. On the road, I use spit and a piece of paper towel, or newspaper. Gross, but it's not just water, and it seems to dissolve the dried bug guts better than water. Works on bird sh*t too, I've gotten some funny looks spitting on my own motorcycle when I made the mistake of locking it to a streetlamp. Otherwise, wetting a paper towel and laying it on the faceshield for 1/2 hr softens up everything but tar, and WD40 cleans up that.
