Does anyone know if a klr650 shock will fit a 250, or does anyone know the dimensions of a klr 650 shock that way I can compare it to the shock on my 250(length eye to eye, width of ends, or any other measurements that might help). Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. David

well I just happen to have a KLR650 spare in the basement: center of eye (top) to center of clevis = 405 mm max diameter (i.e. of spring) = 78 mm clevis width = 30 mm (inside) from center of clevis, clearance to top = 40 mm clevis mounting bolt hole dia. = 15 mm eye end width = 20 mm eye end mounting hole dia. = 13 mm shock travel = 55-60 mm (depending how hard I compress the rubber bumper. I was cleaning up my favorite KLR this evening and decided to spray the shock down with some WD-40 to loosen it up and keep it free. I noticed for the first time that there is an air valve at the top of it just under the airbox. Is this a factory shock and is this for refreshing the nitrogen in it? Tom Baumen

If the air valve is recessed into the shock, that's stock but the valve cover has been pried off. If the stem and schraeder valve stick out about an inch or so then it's definitely not the stock shock. My Progressive 420 looks like this, but I don't know how many others do as well so who knows. Stocker will have a big square blue sticker on it with the name "Kawasaki" and a bunch of other wording. Yes the valve is there for recharge with nitrogen. If the shock is not obviously leaking oil, you can change the oil (I'll check the amount tonight) and recharge the gas to 150 lb. If it is leaking, you can rebuild it for about $30 in parts. $30?! Really? Well I could afford to throw $30 at mine to make it hold oil till I scrape up the money for a rebuild. What do I need to order and from who? Do I have to get the spring removed? MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)

I agree. I'm a fork-brace believer. Elden's comments do seem to have merit, and I'm sure he's right about their drawbacks. But I think Elden is focusing on a handful of rotten trees standing in a healthy forest. The overall effect of the fork-brace is positive. Elden and Stu are the only two people to express reservations about them, and Stu was probably sober and grouchy that day. RM
