The Phoenix jacket has been getting nothing rave reviews and endorsements.
Last year when MCN reviewed summer jackets it made it in the top three and
for months they got emails from readers explaining their Phoenix had saved
their hide when they went down. The jackets were pretty much history after
the one crash but they had provided adequate protection. MCN tests showed the
yellow was coolest, followed by red, gray, blue and black, with the spread
begin about 5 degrees. Sounds great for the street, but off road you would
need a shell to protect it from the flora and fauna.
BTW, just got mine last week.

I had a Joe Rocket Ballistic Jacket and loved it, but just recently a lamp fell against it and melted part of the zipper and a hole in the back completely through the back pad and out the back. Looks like I took a shotgun blast at close range. If the zipper hadn't been toasted I could have patched the back, but as it is it's screwed.
Oh well, it was silver and I've been wanting a Kawi green one anyway.
Dave A12 P.S. I've had wonderful riding weather here for the last two week dooden, so go play with your doohickey and quit whining.

I gave my Phoenix jacket to my Dad when I gave him one of my SR500s last
father's day.
I still have the pants, which I like for summer trail riding. The
occasional thorns still get you, but my big worry is deer ticks just
walking through the mesh.

I am impressed with JR's design, but less so with it's construction. I
think that the Fieldsheer air-mesh jackets are better constructed and
cheaper. They come with CE approved armor and can be had from
www.newenough.com for $89 I believe. The one really noticeable
difference is that the FS mesh is a tighter weave and feels heavier than
the JR stuff. Didn't the MCN article rate the FS pretty high as well?

The Fieldsheer Sonic Air at $129 and the Joe Rocket Phoenix 2.0 at $119 both
look like pretty good jackets. I see a fitting room showdown in my near
future.

Hate to tell you but the Fieldsheer got a score of 21 compared with the Joe
Rocket that ranked a 33.5 with the top jacket getting a 34.5 (Firstgear)
