doohickey instalation question

I thought that the filing Devon had to do was just a part of the early production bugs that have been fixed. Filing on the top of the doohickey looks like it only will make the starter gear clear from making contact with the doohickey . The instructions also state "Kaws design of the system does not allow for full use of the chain or a spring that will retain tension on the system." What the heck is the boss adjacent to the idler sprocket?

Two separate things. 1- Doohickey 2.0 (kawi made 1.0 and 1.5) wasn't filed to clear the starter gear. Sagebrush Doohickey 2.1 comes pre-filed, as does Eagle Doohickey 2.1. On rare occasions particularly out-of-tolerance starter gears have scraped against the newer doohickeys, but it's easily remedied with a sharp file in about 5 minutes. 2- The boss on the crankcase for the magneto-inner-cover retaining bolt just below the idler sprocker is too close to the sprocket. Eventually the chain will rub on it. Tengai Mark has some info about this, and I will be updating my doohickey page soon as well. Devon TM1669@... wrote:

Anyone into northern lights? Check this out. www.vrphoto.com Pretty amazing if you ask me. Had the chance to go with him two or three nights on separate occasions. Most of his stuff is from the Canmore - Banff - Kananaskas area. Russ [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
